Final Fantasy 6, known by many as Final Fantasy 3 in the United States, marks the point of rapid ascension to greatness for SquareSoft. With Final Fantasy 4 selling out quickly and eventually to be found no where, people craved new and exciting adventures and plots. They were satisfied beyond expectation when Final Fantasy 6 was released and its graphics, storyline, and fun inspiring play captivated everyone. Pronounced the greatest game in the history of RPGs (A title only Final Fantasy games have since received), the long wait ended and this game was plenty in supply.
Final Fantasy 6 sported many new additions to the title. Most notably, this game is where Final Fantasy began becoming a mix of technology and magic. Taking place in the distant future, magic is no longer master of the world -- science is. As magic is forgotten, its essence sinks into the crystalline state known as "Espers". Espers, the summoned creatures much like the ones in Final Fantasy 4, teach the characters magic through battles. This is determined through a new type of experience point. In upcoming Final Fantasy games, magic is found through Materia and Guardians and the enemies themselves... Espers were just a more subtle way of leaning towards this trend.
The game and plot for Final Fantasy 6 are astoundingly exceptional. As mentioned, the excellent graphics attribute much, though it is what comprises the storyline that makes it great. With magic gone and technology reigning supreme, the people cry out for hope as the evil Emperor and his Empire begin taking over the world. The Empire takes many cities and destroys Doma and its people. As the land of Figaro surrenders to the Empire, Tara comes into play.
A young lady with the natural capabilities of magic, she is part of the Empire and is sent to investigate reports that an Esper has been found in the small town of Narshe. Espers hold the capabilities of magic, and if they can actually get this living Esper they will be able to infuse the magic into living people and MagiTech machines. As she and two soldiers approach the cave, the Esper awakens from his thousand year sleep and destroys them all...
Awakening in a town in Narshe, Tara finds out that she had been brainwashed. She agrees to join the small Resistance army and help take down the Empire once and for all. As her memory returns, new memories will be created. She meets friends and makes enemies along the way. Mysterious people who seem to serve no purpose in the plot (Siegfried, ziegfried, etc.) will encounter her. From this land to the world of Espers to the lands of ruin, Tara will encounter enemies and encounter herself and what she really is.
Filled with man secrets, awesome weapons, and breath-taking spells, Final Fantasy 6 really is one of the greatest RPGs ever created.
Revival of Magic
Long ago, the War of the Magi
reduced the world to a
scorched wasteland
and magic simply ceased to exist.
1,000 years have passed... Iron,
gunpowder, and steam engines
have been rediscovered, and
high technology reigns...
But there are some who
would destroy the world by
reviving the dread destructive
force known as "magic."
Can it be that those
in power are on the verge of
repeating a senseless
and deadly mistake?
The machine treds along step by step. The incessant clank, clank, clank has become a part of life. What kind of life is this? Hired to help the empire, Vicks is proud of his position. So proud to be elected as one of the two MagiTek warriors to accompany the witch...
The snow eventually spits forth a speck in the horizon. Narshe is close. They say that Narshe contains a living Esper encased in rock! The miners have no clue what they have found. Why did the Empire have to send the witch? Rumor has it that she killed 50 men with a natural magic from within her.
Finally Vicks, the witch, and the other Magitek warrior sent reach Narshe. Upon entering the town several townspeople attack. Even their dogs attack! Such nerve is repayed with quick death, the magical rays of the Magitek armor poisoning and burning all in its path. They enter the cave and reach the Esper, encased in blue stone..
No one would have thought that such a beautiful sight could possibly be so dangerous. No one thought that such a dormant piece of rock would help to destroy the entire planet. In awe they go to take the Esper to its new home. As they approach, something odd happens... the witch somehow connects to the Esper, it seems. As Vicks watches in utter amazement, the other MagiTek warrior screams and him and his MagiTek fade into the void of non-existance. Vicks turns to run in a panic, but the slow MagiTek armor is no match for the force of total oblivion he is up against... Nothing can escape pure magical power. Vicks gasps momentarily, seeing the witch who got him into this situation suddenly fall into unconsciousness.
Upon seeing his last sight, Vicks gasps no more...
