My kids and I moved to Houston, Texas in the Fall of 1981 and it was probably the best thing
that could have happened to all of us. My Mom always told me when I was a little girl I wanted to be a
cowgirl and I guess this is as close as I could get to fulfilling that. A phrase I've heard before seems to
fit me just fine *Yankee by birth, Texan by choice*.
Unless you've been through Texas it's difficult to visualize just how big it really is, but I'll attempt to give
you some visual concepts. A friend of mine told me when she was little and they left Amarillo (which is in
what's called the Panhandle) to go on vacation, instead of asking (like kids always do) "are we there yet?"
their question was "are we out of Texas yet?" There are 19 other states that could fit within the borders of
Texas!
There's no way I could tell you all I've learned about Texas since I've lived here, so I did some research for the
best links to provide here. WOW!! On just one search engine I found 755,346 documents on Texas and 303,130
on Houston. Needless to say, I didn't read all of them, but I did find what I think will give you a very good perspective
