Three Days to Hear

I have been deaf since birth. I wish I could hear forever,
but if I had only three days to hear, I would do these things.
On the first day, I would like to call my grandparents,
relatives, friends, and boyfriend on the telephone
and talk as long as I want.
After I’m done talking on the telephone,
I would like to sit with my family, listening to what they are talking about,
so I don’t have to read lips or ask them what they said.
At night, I would like to listen to the radio,
I would like to know what the weather would be like for the next day
and listen to the news.
Then listen to the music that I really like.
I would listen to Tears for Fears, Duran Duran, Wham!, Madonna, etc.
On the second day, I would like to go to a waterfall
and listen to the water rushing down over the hill
and then sit down by the tree listening to the wind blowing.
Later in the evening, I would like to go to the zoo to hear animal’s voices,
like the lion roaring, birds talking, goats saying baa-baa, and other animal’s voices.
On the third day, I would like to have my niece come over to my house to play with me.
I would love to hear her saying “Aunt Cindy”
I would be happy and inspired.
After a while my ears would be about to turn deaf.
Three days to hear would be the best memory for the rest of my life
because I would remember the joy of hearing things that I never heard before.
