My
                              Song of all time

By the year 1958, I was a boy 8 years old and had been listening to Rock and Roll music for some time. It was in the spring of 58 I was sitting in front of the old black and white TV watching American Bandstand.

It was during that show that it happened. Four guys from the Bronx New York came on and started singing this song, which began with one of the most memorable bass intros in all of the Group Harmony/DooWop era, "Din-din-din-di-din-din-di-din-di-di-di-din-din-din-di-di-di-di-di don't know why I love you like I do." As the show moved on, I learned the group performing was Dion and the Belmonts, and the song of course was "I Wonder Why."

As years went on, and the music changed drastically, that one song, on the old gray Laurie label, always STUCK in my mind. I found that I could sing any and all of the four parts of the song, (not all at once.) My older brother and I used to do the song quite well. Eventually, I even lost my copy of the original 45, and I didn't find another copy of the song for ten years. The hunt for "I Wonder Why" is a story in itself, and I might share that at a later time. Even though I didn't even own a copy of the song for many years, in the early 70's I began to develop a NEW interest in the music of the 1950's and early 60's. "I Wonder Why" became my ALL TIME FAVORITE SONG, crossing any and all genres.

A long time has passed. I've listened to thousands of songs from many varied artists. I'm still proud indeed to pay special tribute to Dion DiMucci, Angelo D'Aleo, Carlo Mastangelo, and Fred Milano. What a sound! What a song! "I Wonder Why" stands out for me, as my favorite song of all time.
