In memory of Nicolas Andry founder of orthopedy.

"When with the title in question, I made it of two Greek words, namely, of Orthos which wants to say right, and of Paidion, which means child. I composed of these two words that of
orthopedy, to express in only one term the intention that I propose..."

   Hello

Welcome on the site of the  European Centerof the Spinal Column domiciled to the Private clinic of the Park in Lyon (France). The management of this site was entrusted to Doctor Jean Claude de Mauroy, person in charge for the  Service of Orthopedic Medicine.

This site is addressed to all those which are interested in the spinal column and its pathology, we wish to provide you information in real time on our activity.

Information available in these pages is in conformity with the information of the patients of the National Agency of Accreditation and Evaluation in Health of March 2000. (site ANAES - information of the patients) and with the charter of quality and deontology of the Web sites adopted by the Council of the National Order of the Doctors on April 14, 2000.

We wish that this information contribute to the relation of confidence between the doctor and the patient. It is a preamble or a complement of the medical consultation, it cannot in no case to replace it.

Some names:

Claude GALIEN speaks for the first time about SCOLIOSIS about the tortuous Greek meaning.

Ambroise PARE in 1575 recommends in his 23° delivers concerning the ortesis " le corselet to draw up a twisted body"

Nicolas ANDRY (born in Lyon) in 1741 creates the ORTHOPEDIE term or the art to prevent and correct in the children the deformities of the body.

FLOW CHART

The International Society of Research and Study on Spine (SIRER)

It gathers doctors, surgeons, physiotherapists, orthesists and organizes an annual congress with topic and publishes the research tasks in the review "Resonances Européennes du Rachis"

La Clinique du Parc - Lyon

Registered office of the CECV, it is devoted to orthopedy and accomodates each year more than 30 000 patients. It gathers around the patient, child or adult all the aspects of orthopedy: surgery, but also medicine, physiotherapy, radiology...

Dominens

Society intervening within the companies, or the schools. It is dedicated to the prevention of the lumbagos and the musculo-skeletal disorders (TMS).

We insist on the adaptation of the working station and the professional gesture according to the morphotype of the spine in the sagittal plane.

We invite you to see some aspects of the back-school  where a special page with video is dedicated to the port of the school bag.

The Centre Européen de la Colonne vertébrale (CECV)

Created in 1990, it gathers professionals impassioned by the spinal column who decided to use the same tools for evaluation and the same protocols of treatment in order to offer to the patient the best validation techniques suggested. It makes it possible to reconcile medicine of speciality and medicine of proximity.

PATHOLOGIES

Scoliosis child, adult

You will find in this site, many original pages concerning:

  1. linear and nonlinear evolution (chaos deterministic) which revolutionizes the concept of tracking and the monitoring,
  2. The original Lyons conservative orthopedic treatment  allowing to avoid the
surgery in 98 % of the cases for a idiopathic scoliosis initialy treated with less than 45°

Kyphosis

The round back less better is known and less better treated than the scoliosis. The preserving orthopedic treatment allows in the majority of the cases, to cure these kyphoses. The knowledge of the sagittal morphotype is a fundamental element of the adaptation of the sitting position and working station .

Spondylolisthésis

The precise study of the lombo-pelvic morphotype (lombo-pelvic angle of incidence) is an element of fundamental forecast for the practice of the sport and the vocational guidance.
The preserving orthopedic treatment allows during adolescence the continuation of the sports activity .

Back pain

The failure of the treatment of the chronic back pain is often related to its chaotic evolution ( nonlinear)

Some aphorisms:

  1. The lumbago is not a disease, it is an alarm and a safety belt  for the spinal column. To take a analgesics, it is as to lead without safety belt.
  2. There is no correlation between the radiological imaging and clinical symptomatology. To make a scanner or a magnetic resonance do not constitute a treatment of the lumbago.
  3. The rest is generally contra-indicated and strongly slows down the recovery. The stop of work higher than 3 weeks (time of cicatrization of a ligament) does not have a direction; the column is a flexible device made to be moving . When the immobilization of the lumbar spine is indicated, it is necessary to use the lumbar ortesis and to continue a normal activity.
  4. The medicamentous treatments are not very effective because the intervertebral disc is not vascularized.
  5. The preserving orthopedic treatment must be considered after 2 months of failure of the traditional treatments. It is necessary to answer a mechanical lumbago by a mechanical solution (discharge of 30% of the pressures). It is about an urgency, because the nerve has a memory and a mechanical dysfunction evolves quickly to local over-sensitiveness.
