HCPH
Hawaii Council on Portuguese Heritage
Chartered in 1977 for the purpose of preserving and perpetuating
the heritage and culture of the Portuguese in Hawaii, the HCPH is an umbrella
office for a dozen different organizations statewide. Portuguese civic,
cultural and business groups throughout the state of Hawaii are each represented
by a delegate who serves on the Council's Board of Directors. From among
these board members, the officers of HCPH are elected each year.
The HCPH also organizes a FESTA each summer to showcase the history
and culture of the Portuguese. Revenue generated at the FESTA helps to
support the many programs and activities taking place throughout the year.
Events such as genealogy workshops, dance classes, cooking shows, language
instruction and much more are made possible through fundraising efforts
and support from the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts. All events
are usually free of charge and always open to the general public.
