The

Forbidden

City,

Beijing

We went to Beijing, Changsha, and Guangzhou. We saw the Ming Tombs, the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace, Tiananmen Square, a 2000 year old corpse, and an acrobat show. I was most impressed with the Great Wall of China. The Great Wall of China ("The 10,000 Li Wall") is the world's longest wall. It stretches across northern China from Jiayuguan Pass in the Gobi Desert to Shanhaiguan Pass on the East coast. It is over 1,500 miles long. Most of it was constructed between 500-2,000 years ago. Construction to unify the existing separate walls (built by independent kingdoms) began during the Qin dynasty under the First Exalted Emperor Qin Shihuang in 221 BC. It is said to be the biggest graveyard in the world, because the bones of workers that died during construction were used as building material for the Wall. It is about 12 feet wide and on average 25 feet high. It is an amazing architectural accomplishment! I climbed the Great Wall on October 26, 1996. It was an experience I will never forget.
