"You Gotta Believe"

Frank Edwin "Tug" McGraw was born in Martinez, California and raised on the other side of the Carquinez Straits in Vallejo. His playing days began in Little League, and progressed through St. Vincent's High School and Vallejo Junior College before he was signed by the New York Mets.

He played on the 1969 "Miracle Mets", and his slogan, "You gotta believe", summarized the Mets' 1973 World Series season. He later joined the Philadelphia Phillies, starring in post-season play and returning to the World Series in 1980. Tug was twice selected to the National League All Star Team, first in 1972 as a Met, and later in 1975 as a Philly.

After his retirement, Tug McGraw received two votes for the Baseball Hall of Fame.
