I have been providing engineering and management problem solving services for 30 years. I can work on separate definable tasks or participate with a team. Through telecommunications I have been working as a team member for over 12 years where the other members of the team are across the country or elsewhere in the world. I am no further away than your computer which is actually closer than down the hall. My working for myself helps keep overhead low. And best of all, you can only use me when you need me. Sherlock Homes, Mother Nature and Me This may take a few minutes to read, but it summarizes how I work. I have always been a fan of Sherlock Holmes and have spent a significant part of my career being a detective in the world of engineering.
How it's done A short story that discusses the way I solve problems as well as a few interesting examples that were rather baffling at first.
What I can do Over the years I have had the opportunity to work in a wide variety of areas. It is difficult categorize my experience since many project overlap. The following are the major areas of my experience. But the selected projects for each area may also apply to other areas.
| System Performance | Production/Process | Structures/Vibrations | Foundations/Earth Structures |
| Groundwater | Environmental/Risk Assessment | Hazardous/Nuclear Waste | Mining and Underground |
Usual credential stuff A summary of my educational background and experience.
Things I've written. A list of publications I've authored or coauthored over the years.
Colleagues I work with. This page contains links to some of my professional associates who have pages on the web. It is hoped that this will grow over time as other colleagues join me on the web.
This page will change from time to time to present thoughts on problem solving derived from my experience. It is hoped that each thought will provide some insight into aspects of problem solving that go beyond the technology involved.Number 1, Active Listening in Problem Solving
This page contains a collection of links to professional society homepages, government agencies, and legal resources relative to regulations governing various aspects of engineering. This page will also change from time to time as more useful links are added.
Have a question or want more information? Send me email at DEShawPE@AOL.com until I finish my form. Give me your regular mail address and phone number and any interests you have. If you presently have a problem under consideration, give me a brief description. If I have any ideas as to how to solve it, I'll get back to you.
