November 4, 1944, a battalion from the 112th regiment of the 28th Infantry
Division, Pennsylvania National Guard, a veteran of the Normandy landings,
has pushed its way through the Huertgen Forest to the town of Schmidt.
Unbeknownst to anyone other than the German High Command the town of Schmidt
is situated on high ground which will be important to the yet unannounced
planned counterattack in the Ardennes. It was imperative that all high ground
be held by the German forces for this planned attack to get off to a good
start. The Germans had to retake the town of Schmidt and assigned a company
of panzers from the 116th Panzer Grenadier Division and elements from the
89th Infantry Division to do the job. Only 3 of 8 M4 Sherman tanks sent to
reinforce the American positions managed to negotiate the narrow road and
make it to the town of Schmidt.
Panthers and Mark IVs closed on the town from the Northeast while the 89th
Infantry assaulted the town from the Southeast in an attempt to drive out
the American 112th Regiment battalion holding the town.
As German commander drive the Americans out of the town. This is a continuation
of my long delayed "Huertgen Forest" series.

September 7, 1914, while on patrol near Moncel, France, a troop from the British 9th Lancers stumbles upon a clearing where a cavalry force twice its size from the German 1st Garde Dragoner, Garde Cavallerie Division, the flower of the German mounted service. Without a moment hesitation the British Lancers charged the 100-man strong German force and cut their way through them in a vicious fracas. The British commanding officer, Colonel David Campbell, was lanced and his adjutant wounded and many others were killed and wounded, but the 9th Lancers took twice as many Germans down with them. This was the only head-on cavalry battle in France during the entire war.

A small rag-tag outfit of allies, British and American, defend the desert
well at the Bir Aqrum ruins from elements of a Afrika Korps infantry
battalion.
This fast playing scenario is based on the great 1943 wartime movie "Sahara"
starring Humphrey Bogart (Sgt. Joe Gunn) and Dan Duryea (Pvt. Jimmy Doyle).
Do your best to defend the well against the German assault. Follow the rules
of engagement in the briefing text. This scenario is best played as the American
side.

It's up to a squad from King Company to reconnoiter and sweep a small
french village. Lt. Hanley and Sgt. Saunders lead the men of the squad
on patrol to a small french village in the countryside. Perform a sweep of
the village and check out all the victory point areas. Be on your toes!!
Get your men in and out safely.
This mission is based on my favorite 1960s series called COMBAT! Each week
Sgt. Saunders and/or Lt. Hanley would lead the squad in some adventure on
the front lines. I have included all the men that appeared as regulars in
that series, Braddock is the name of the character of the chubby fast talking
man of the squad. Billy was a short term character. The only long term members
of the squad were "Caje" (pronounced "cage" short for "Cajun" the french
speaking soldier), Little John, Kirby (the B.A.R. man), and Doc (the medic)
who was played by two different actors over the years. Doc is just there
for accuracy, and he has no offensive capability.
I used some special hex editing of the file to create U.S. "sniper" class
infantrymen and to get the proper graphic of a single soldier (something
the editor doesn't let the U.S. have in the game.) I started with Russians
and through patches to the data I converted them to U.S. nationality.

December 27, 1941, British commandos on their first large scaleraid supported
by the guns of the cruiser HMS KENYA and the RAF attack the German occupied
Norwegian coastal town of South Vaagso and the nearby islet of Maaloy. Divided
into groups, each with its own mission.
Group 1 was to caputure the small village of Hollevik to west and march to
South Vaagso and become part of a reserve.
Group 2 was to assault South Vaagso, destroy the German garrison, blow up
the lighthouse to the south of town and nearby factory, then take the Ulvesund
Hotel to the west of town, the radio station, power station, Firda factory
and the herring oil factory to the north along the shore.
Group 3 was to deal with the remains of the German gun positions on the islet
of Maaloy and the German Barrack there, then destroy the Mortenes Herring
Oil factory to the northeast.

Firefight Series #1 - "The Little Wars" Despite the fact that the U.S.-made
tank, called "Honey" by the British, was classified officially as a "light
tank" it was an even match when compared to the Italian-made M13/40
"medium tank" which has been described as a "self-propelled coffin." This
battle simulates a chance encounter in the Libyan desert between several
troops of Honey tanks from the British 201st Guards Brigade and a force of
M13/40 tanks from the Italialian Ariete Division during June, 1942.

began as chance engagements where the forces involved were generally not
the type you would find in a planned battle or were not equal in number or

light tank recon patrol from the 32nd Army Tank Brigade and an Afrika Korps
33rd Panzer Artillery Regiment supply column attempting sneak through a remote

Firefight Series Battle #3 - The Little Wars, June 1942, Libya. Often
after a larger engagement both sides would send out detachments to recover
equipment damaged or disabled from the battlefield. Some of this equipment
retrieved was even from "the other side". Any new equipment types recovered
from the enemy were sent on to intelligence while other items were repaired
and pressed into service by the new owners to supplement their diminished
stocks of equipment. Sometimes opposing detachments would engage each other
in fierce firefights to prevent the removal or destruction of material and
equipment by the enemy.
In this battle a recovery detail from the British 4th Armored Brigade comprised
of armor escort, engineers, infantry and their transports arrive on the scene
of a battle that occurred earlier in the day. As dusk arrives elements of
the 5th Panzer Regiment, 104th Panzer Grenadiers, 200th Panzer Engineer Battalion
and a small detachement of infantry AT from the 155th Panzer Artillery
Regiment arrive to recover their equipment from battlefield.
The prize of this encounter are the two new PzIVf2s types that had been
disabled in the previous battle. TheBritish should try to recover these two
units.

Firefight Series Battle #4 - The Little Wars, June 1942, Libya. In the
early days of the desert war, Italian armored units often were engaged by
heavy British Matilda II tanks. A small number of Matildas could often send
a superior numerical force running or force a stalemate. The Italian M13/40
did have the advantage of speed while the Matilda II enjoyed heavy armor
protection that soon earned it the name "Queen of the Desert". This
engagement reenacts a "joust" between Italian Ariete Armored Division M-13/40s
and British 7th Armored Division Matilda IIs. The M-13/40s enjoying
superior numbers and speed vs. the Matilda II's heavier armor protection.
The real challenge of this scenario is playing the British side.

battle between the spearhead of the German 8th Panzer Regiment of the 5th
Panzer Division and "B" Squadron British 4th Armored Brigade of the 3rd Royal

of their nine new lend-lease M-3 "Grant" tanks in the first fifteen

100 German tanks descending upon them. Engage the spearhead of the German

the 15th Rifle Regiment, and the Italian 10th Corps, the "Sabratha" Infantry
Division mount a diversionary attack against the British lines, 3rd and 2nd
South African Brigades, west of Tobruk near Gazala. Rommel intended that
this attack draw the British armored reserves away from his real attack point
to the south. The Italian attack was described as "half-hearted" according
to one British account but the battle proved bloody albeit indecisive in
its results.

Air Raid! Schwerdhofen! August 1944. Your units of combat engineers have
been sent in advance with a platoon of M8s from a light recon outfit to observe
a massive air strike against the Schwerdhofen rocket fuel plant in Germany.
Schwerdhofen makes rocket fuel for the new "wunderwaffe" (wonder weapon)
the Me-163 rocket fighter.
The area is heavily defended by 20mm FlaK guns from the 28th Luftwaffe Leichte
(light) FlaK Regiment and 88mm FlaK guns from the 93rd Luftwaffe Schwere
(heavy) FlaK Regiment. The town also contains elements of the 4th SS Polizei
Panzergrenadier Division being used as a security force.
Your ground units should not move until the opening of the 11th turn. Use
only your air power for the first 10 turns of the scenario. Don't waste
them.
Except for the 4th SS Polizei Panzergrenadier Division all units depicted
in this scenario and the town of Schwerdhofen are ficticious. Hint: The U.S.
Player should spread out his aerial attack. It is better to send in the air
assault in small waves rather than all at once or you may find the going
extremely tough by the end of the battle.

Thermopylae is best known for the heroic three-day delaying-action fought
there in 480 B.C. by King Leonidas and his 300 Spartans along with 7,000
other Greeks against at least 200,000 Persians. The Pass then was a narrow
chariot-width track between the mountain and the sea but by 1941 the sea
had receded three miles and the position was far less defensible. The main
road to Athens from Thessaly crossed the moutains by the Brallos Pass 10
miles west of Thermopylae, its initial climb coincided with the beginning
of the Anopaea goat-track betrayed to the Persians by which they outflanked
the defenders more than 2,000 years before.
The 6th Australian Division and the 2nd new Zealand Division resurrected
the immortal name of the 1st Anzac Corps, which had fought 26 years before
at Gallipoli. The New Zealanders held down the line on the slopes of Mount
Olympus to the east near the town of Molos and the main road leading from
the Pass at Thermopylea. The Australians held down the west end of the line
on the slopes of Mt. Olympus near the Brallo Pass that led directly south
from the town of Larnia in the north. The town of Brallos lay to the south
of the pass along the western slopes of Mt. Olympus. Both roads crossed over
the River Sperkhios that flowed into the Malian Gulf to the northeast.
The tanks of the 1st Armoured Brigade were mechanically unfit to perform
any mobile actions against the oncoming German forces due to the arduous
trek they had made in the preceeding days. The 6th New Zealand Infantry Brigade
had the support of some 90 5.5 medium and 25pdr field guns. The Australian
positions were supported by 2/2nd Australian Field Regiment.
The German forces consisted of elements of the German 40th Motorized Corps
and the 2nd Panzer Division. The 5th Panzer Division was to storm up the
Lamia-Athens road through the pass at Thermopylae with engineers, motorcyclists,
and some of the new self-propelled guns. The German main thrust was to have
gone through the Brallos Pass, but during the course of the battle the thrust
was changed towards the town of Molos.
The German forces underwent heavy pinning fire from 25pdrs during the entire
battle. Many German tanks were destroyed or so badly shot up by 2pdr anti-tank
guns that they were useless.
The 1st Anzac Corps eventually fell back towards the south and escaped the
oncoming German advance.

finally brought to a halt by superior Russian numbers of armor and

The initial contact was made by a force of Inner Mongolian cavalry and their
Japanese advisors.
The attack swiftly captured the village of Nomanhan just across the border.
However the Russians were alerted and dispatched a force of cavalry of the
Outer Mongolian People's Repulic to meet the invaders while and alert was
sent to Moscow about the situation.
