ST. MARY'S HEMITAGE POTTERY
P.O. Box 42, Doyles, NF, A0N IJ0, Canada
| Nicholas O'Keeffe is a Diocesan hermit at St. Mary's Place of Solitude and Prayer where he works at the potter's wheel creating functional earthenware pottery, working with a kick wheel, local and commercial clay and an updraft gas kiln. He mixes his own glazes which are lead free and non toxic. |
Nicholas is surrounded in his work and life by silence. In this contemplative milieu the forms he creates are gentle on the eyes. His work includes tea pots, casserole dishes, bean crocks, table settings, bowls large and small, cannister sets, vases, steins, mugs, sugar and creams, platters and pitchers.
His palette of colours range from earth colours, speckled white, through blue to black. He is constantly playing with new forms and new colours. |
Nicholas is a member of the Newfoundland and Labrador Craft Development Association.
