WEAVING FROM THE CENTER
P.O. Box 145, RR#1, Doyles, NF, A0N IJ0, Canada
| Allow me to introduce myself and my WEAVING . . . |
My name is SHEILA O'HANDLEY and I live as a hermit at Saint Mary's Place of Solitude and Prayer, in the beautiful Codroy Valley on the West coast of Newfoundland, Canada.
My work is created within a contemplative atmosphere of silence and solitude thus flowing from "the Center of Being." The following quote from 'Woven Works' highlights for me both the place of this ancient art of handweaving in humankinds creative history and my purpose for choosing this art of handweaving as a means of supporting myself financially.... .
"Once it was important to weave cloth to clothe the body and even though machines can now do that faster and cheaper, handweavers are still at it. They weave now for its own sake..... to clothe the soul." |
MyWEAVING is handwoven on both 45 and 60 inch Leclerc counterbalance looms with quality, variety and color in the finest of wools, silk, rayon, chenille and linen.
My WORK includes such one-of-a-kind and functional artifacts as clothing, altar cloths and other liturgical ware, and table materials. I am delighted to do woven goods to order.
I am a member of the Newfoundland and Labrador Craft Development Association.
If you are in the area of the Codroy Valley please drop in to see my work for yourself. I am normally available here, but you may wish to check in advance.
