Joe Saltel's Bio Page

Joe's introduction to square dance calling came at the early age of eight, when his grandfather assisted him in learning his first few singing calls. Since that time, he has enjoyed being involved in square dancing and calling.
Joe instructed his first square dance class in 1971. Since his graduation from Humbolt State University, he has been a featured caller for many festivals and dances in over 35 states (including Alaska and Hawaii), Canada, Mexico, New Zealand, Denmark and Sweden. Joe has also led seven successful square dance tour/cruises to Alaska, the Carribean, Hawaii and Mexico.
As well as traveling to his numerous out-of-town engagements, Joe keeps his resident program healthy. In his home area of the northern California coast, he calls and teaches for two weekly Plus clubs, a Mainstream club and an Advanced group. Joe's wife, Chris, in addition to her managerial ocupation, dances through Advanced and supports his full-time efforts. As well as accompanying Joe as often as possible, she also efficiently runs the special dances and weekends they sponsor. Their thirteen year old daughter Tanya, dances Plus and is an accomplished young vocalist. She also sings with Dad and is featured on many of Joe's cassettes, including his latest, "American Hertitage".
Joe is co-owner of DJ records, his latest releases being "Put On A Happy Face" and "Winners". His voice can be found on many tunes released by both Eureka and Chinook Records. He has been an accredited member of CALLERLAB since 1977 and has choreographed many square dance calls, including a Quarterly Selection. He is also BMI/ASCAP licensed. Joe enjoys what he calls his vocation and avocation and feels fortunate to be a part of this great activity.
