Forthcoming and Recent Releases :

In 2006, two recordings of Simpson’s 3rd Symphony were released. First is a re-release, on NMC’s Ancora label (NMC D109), of the Horenstein/London Symphony Orchestra version coupled with the Clarinet Quintet played by Bernard Walton and the Aeolian String Quartet (previously released by Unicorn-Kanchana as UKCD2028). Second is a recording of the American premiere of the 3rd given on December 8th 1974 by the Oklahoma City Symphony Orchestra conducted by Ainslee Cox and released privately by Theo Van Der Burg [www.med.hro.nl/burtw/]. The CD can be obtained by e-mailing burtw@hro.nl. Also in 2006, Hyperion records re-released their pioneering series of complete Simpson Symphonies as a boxed set. Hyperion’s list price for the seven CD boxed set is £48.93, compared to £97.99 for the individual CDs.

A memorial concert was held at Wigmore Hall on July 17 at 7:30 pm to commemorate the life of Ted Perry. Proceeds from the concert went towards funding the last CD in the Simpson symphony cycle. This consists of the London Sinfonia playing Symphony No. 11 and the Nielsen Variations, conducted by Matthew Taylor.  The CD was recorded December 11th and 12th 2003, and was released as Hyperion CDA67500 in August 2004. My account of the recording session was published in the Spring 2004 issue of Leading Notes.
