The Shadow, Doc Savage, The Spider, Operator 5, The Secret Six, G-8 and his Battle Aces! The heroes that inspired the later comic book superheroes, and of course, their own legions of fans.
- This site should take you as close to the Alt.Pulp newsgroup as I could manage. (You need only to click once more). Be warned, it's all they talk about. Or you can try it via DejaNews.
-
The Pulp Page provides an excellent introduction to the different types of pulps.
- What can be said about
that hasn't been? It is the best pulp-related site I've seen, containing links to many other Pulp sites, plus much, much more!

- Doc Savage's HQ was located on the 86th Floor of the Empire State Building. Seems they're still there. Chris Kalb my hat is off to you...
- Another cool Doc site, Doc Savage the Man of Bronze -- dig that music, man...
- I want to especially direct Chris Vitek to this Doc Savage FAQ where he can see that Lester Dent (and not George & I) was Doc's creator. (Don't ask, it's a long story...)
-
Yet another fine, site Doc Savage Unchained! lives up to its name...
- While not specifically a pulp site, this one features old comic book covers from the 1940s. This month, for example, featured a Shadow cover. So check them out.
- Who Knows What Evil Lurks in the Hearts of Men? The Shadow knows:
- There are links to this site on some of the other pages, but I thought this site on
slang terms of the era was just too cool not to link to it. My only criticism is that there is no way to search, except to scroll down the page...

Pulp Fiction - Fiction Net Links from About.com
-
Pulp Fiction Central -- this fabulous site (which I somehow left out of my last update) has all sorts of pulp reprints that you can buy at incredibly low prices...
-
Cinemarquee is an unusual site that is intended as a resource for screenwriters, I think. Check them out, they have a series of pulp related links.
- Another great Pulp site, Pulp Adventures, Inc. -- check 'em out.
- I'm not terribly familiar with Philip Jose Farmer's The Wold Newton Universe, but it is clear that it's an effort to tie all the heroic characters from pretty much EVER together in a bundle. These folks have expanded on Mr. Farmer's work, so check it out, but be prepared for you head to spin when you read The Wold Newton Universe Crossover Chronology.
- Some people may question my putting this here, but I think a strong argument could be made for Indiana Jones being a modern Pulp character. So while the movies weren't made in the '40s, I hope you'll bend your standards a little, and understand why I put this link here.
- I am so excited because after finally deciding to update the site after nearly two years, it seems as though the Knights of Torque & Recoil has reappeared.
- This one is even weirder. There is apparently a board game from FASA called Crimson Skies that is set in an alternate '30s America fractured into bits. It's about the pilots and sky pirates that exist in the splintered nation as I understand it. Such an innovative sounding game, that people have gone and based a roleplaying setting there. Check out Doc Naplam's Crash Pad for more. (If there's one thing I've learned with this hobby, it's that we pulp folk have to stick together).
- Also check out Brian Misiaszek's introduction to the Pulps. Gives some roleplaying tips.
-
The Empire Club Home Page is another fine collection of Pulp Roleplaying mania...
- And no list on pulp detective fiction would be complete with out Mickey Spillane's Mike Hammer Site.
-
Now before anybody jumps on me here -- I know Superman wasn't a pulp hero, but he was the first superhero and he did show up in the '30s, so it seems reasonable to put him here.

Download my new Shadow Desktop Theme! It's fun, it's free, it's cooler than Dangerous Creatures... It's a self-extracting zipfile, so just save it and then double-click; it does the rest. |
