MILITARY SERVICE:
Joined the USNR in Jacksonville, Florida
on my 17th birthday, 2 July 1963. Went on active duty 9 Oct 1966. At that
time went to Hospital Corps School, Great Lakes, until 27 Jan 1967. From
there went to Field Medical Service School at Montfort Pt., C.L.N.C unil
31 Mar 1967. Went back to Great Lakes Naval Hospital and worked on 7 EAST,
a 50 patient ward of E.E.N.T. and Plastic Surgery. Cmdr. J. V. Brown M.D. (former
corpsman) was who ran the show on 7 East. I think he was the Best
Plasic Surgeon the the Navy EVER HAD. I received my requested orders
to serve with the Fleet Marine Force which wasn't West Pac, but 2nd Bn.,
8th Marines, 2nd Marine Division in July of 1967. Served with them at C.L.N.C.
and Getmo Bay, Cuba on the Leeward side. Started out working in B.A.S., then
as Senior Company Corpsman in F,G,and H Co.'s. I also became Asst.
Bn. Repelling Instructor.
Requested transfer to 2nd BN. RECON
at Onslow Beach,(Another part of C.L.N.C.) and when HM1 Miller (at Recon)
ask for me to be signed over to 2nd. Bn. Recon, my Chief at 2/8 declined
it. Guess he wanted me to go to Getmo Bay, Cuba (T.O.) with him. Lt.
Donald Hoffman M.D. was my Senior Medical Officer and was great to work
for.
I volunteered three times to
serve in Vietnam, and never received orders. Upset at that time for not receiving
those orders and got off active duty, but a little glad now looking
back. Discharged
Nov 1968 and went back to the Reserves on the agreement that I would
only serve with the "B" Co. Amtrac's, USMCR here in Jacksonville,
Florida. Discharged again Nov 1974. I was they're first ever reserve
FMF Corpsman (8404).
Would like to find my old buddies
that I served with.
UPDATE! 10/8/98 - I just heard
from the HM1 Buck Miller of 2nd Bn. Recon (IN THIS BIO) about three days
ago after 31 yrs because a friend of his saw this web page and told him about
it. WHAT A SHOCKER it was for us both to make contact after all these years.
He was as surprised as I was.

Thanks for surfin by my FIRST web
site.
This page I dedicate to my favorite
patient, L/Cpl Joseph LaMartina USMC/RET.
he served with 3-1-1 in RVN - 1967 . Joe is a-ok guy but
not too fast with the trigger. The guy he was aiming at shot before he did,
OOPS! and so Joe took a bullet for NOT being...so quick.
I think he said he still had the bullet as a keep sake. SO I nicknamed
him QUICK DRAW LaMARTINI. Of course I can't repeat any of the other
names we called each other from time to time here on the web.
Ward 7 East - Great Lakes Naval Hospital - July 1967
Even after causing him much
pain and discomfort during dressing changes, he took me
Out On The Town on
my 21st birthday. That caused me much pain and
discomfort the next morning, but they said,
I had a "GREAT
TIME".
Hope
you see this Joe..."love ya guy, and take care".
."If
only I hadn't talked him into switching from SN to
HN."
Danny served with GOLF 2/7. Anyone that may have known him, PLEASE
contact me.
UPDATE !! Danny's family, that I have been in search of for 37 years have contacted me
by E-Mail. I have since talked to his younger brother and his neice Susan. They moved to Alabama right after Danny died (KIA) so
that's why I couldn't find them. A reunion with them is in the planning stages.
Thank you to everyone who has tried to help me with this search in the past.
