My Rants!
Rants

This is the place for that I'll put down my random rants about things...
Don't be too afraid.  :-D

What is WITH fans lately?  Cell phones thrown at players, fans beating up on
umpires.  I understand being angry at umps, but honestly.  That's a bit extreme.  It needs to stop.  Alcohol is a big part of this.  I cannot even tell you the last time I went to game and there weren't people around me who were drunk.
Last game I went to, the fans were really ripping on this guy who kept popping beach balls.  It was all in good fun at first, just some booing, some popcorn being thrown.  Nothing serious.  And then someone threw a beer bottled at him.  A beer bottle.  That could easily have hit someone and hurt them.  Thank God it didn't.  It's a big problem.
I'm not saying that they should stop selling beer altogether.  First of all, it's not going to happen.  Second of all, most fans are responsible.  But they need to control the abuse.  Maybe stop selling beer after the 5th inning.  Something like that.
I read something today about not doing anything.  Just let the players "take care of it."  I gotta say that I agree.  It's not that I want these idiotic fans to get seriously injured.  But they need to realize that players are not going to let them attack their first base coach.  Sorry, it's just not going to happen.  Players protect their turf.  Alcohol use at games is a big problem.  It needs to be controlled.  Before someone, a fan or a player or maybe an umpire, gets seriously injured.

Gil Hodges should be in the Hall of Fame.  There is something wrong with a world where he's not.  His playing days, his playing stats... they were enough.  But for some reason, i dunno, maybe the voters were on crack,  he's not in.  He took the Mets from last place to first place as a manger.  That should get him in.  He's not.  He better be in.
Maury Wills should be there too.  He changed the way baseball was played.  He won the MVP over Willie Mays!  He was the sparkplug for the early 1960's Dodgers.  The fact that he's not in there is a disaster.
Walter O'Malley brought baseball to the west coast.  He helped bring in Jackie Robinson.  He should be in the Hall.
The Veterans committee obviously did not do what it was supposed to do.  If it had, these, and several other, deserving players would have gotten a call this morning.  The purpose of the revamped committee was to make sure that those who deserved to be in were in.  If those who deserve to be in are not put in, the hall of fame loses its meaning.  Unfortunatly, like all elections, the hall of fame elections are popularity contests.
Although most deserving players do get in, many are overlooked all the time.  No one was elected by the Veterans Committee and they had many worthy choices to pick from.  Obviously the system is still flawed.
