America The Beautiful
      Katherine Lee Bates

      Oh beautiful, for spacious skies,
      for amber waves of grain.
      For purple mountain's majesties,
      above the fruited plane.
      America, America,
God shed His grace on thee,
And crowned thy good with brotherhood,
      from sea to shining sea.

      BATTLE HYMN
      OF THE REPUBLIC
      JULIA WARD HOWE

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord
He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored,
He has loosed the fateful lightening of His terrible swift sword
      His truth is marching on.

      chorus:

      Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
      Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
      Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
      His truth is marching on.

      God Bless America
      Irving Berlin

      God bless America
      Land that I love,
      Stand beside her
      and guide her,
      through the night,
      with a light from above.
      From the mountains
      to the prairies,
      to the oceans
      white with foam.
      God bless America,
      my home sweet home.
      God bless America,
      my home sweet home.

In 1962, the United States Supreme Court took prayer out of public schools in the case of Engel v. Vitale. This has become a very controversial issue with many views supporting both sides of the decision.

Although prayer in our schools as it was when we were children is not legal today, God is still alive and well in our schools as well as throughout this country and around the world. As you can see in the lyrics contained on this page, God was and always shall be praised in many of this country's patriotic tunes. He is praised everytime we hear or sing these songs at any public event.

He is acknowledged every time we salute our country's flag.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG

I pledge allegiance, to the flag,
of the United States of America,
and to the Republic for which it stands!
      One Nation under God,
      Indivisible,
with liberty and justice for all.

He was praised at Fort McHenry when our National Anthem was written.

      THE STAR SPANGELED BANNER
      The Defense of Fort McHenry
      Sir Francis Scott Key
      20 September 1814

      Verse 4

Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand,
Between their loved homes and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heaven-rescued land,
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.

Then conquer we must, for our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner forever shall wave,
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Our Navy prays to Him in song throughout the world.

      THE NAVY HYMN
      [Eternal Father]
      Lyrics by Reverend William Whiting
Music by Reverend John B. Dyke

      Eternal Father, strong to save,
Whose arm hath bound the restless wave,
Who bidd'st the mighty ocean deep,
      Its own appointed limits keep.

Oh hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea! Amen.

Eternal Father, lend Thy grace --To
those with wings who fly thro' space,
Thro wind and storm, thro' sun and rain,
Oh bring them safely home again.

Oh Father, hear a humble prayer,
For those in peril in the air! Amen.

Oh Trinity of love and pow'r,
Our brethren shield in danger's hour,
From rock and tempest, fire and foe,
Protect them where so e'er they go.

Thus evermore shall rise to Thee--
Glad hymns of praise from land and sea! Amen.

All of our military acknowledge His presence at all military burials and at the close of each day at sundown.

      Taps
      Words by John Mitchum

      "Fading light...falling night...
Trumpet calls as the sun sinks in flight.
      Sleep in peace, comrades dear...
      God is near."

"Day is done, gone the sun,
From the lake, from the hills,
      From the sky;
      All is well, safely rest,
      God is nigh."

      Under this ruling:
Schools can allow religious groups to organize on school grounds as if they are any club. They are to be treated as any other organization. Students can pray before class begins, at recess or any other time where class is not being taught.Schools are not allowed to set a special prayer at the beginning of school with a leaning to any religion. Schools cannot stop any student from praying, as long as it does not disrupt the class. Also no teacher can make any student pray.

Years ago, we were taught that God is everywhere. This rang true then as it still does today. He is everywhere and anywhere you would like to find Him. Some of us are just caught up in the rapid and sometimes demanding pace of today's world that we are totally blind to the fact that He is always with us in everything we do. We just need to know how to look for Him. Don't look with the assumption you will not see Him. Look for Him knowing the fact that you will.
