DOWNLOADING AND EXTRACTING FILES

  1. Download the 6 executable files above to your harddrive (preferably create a New Folder on your C:\Drive to store them)
  2. Insert a blank, formatted 3.5" floppy diskette in your floppy (A:\) Drive
  3. Double-Click on the 20ED1US.EXE file
  4. You will see the file extract to floppy through a DOS window. When you see 100% Complete ("Finished!"), remove the floppy.
  5. Repeat the process until you have created 6 diskettes, labeling each as you create them (""MWAVE Drivers 1 of 3", "MIDI Samples 2 of 3" etc)

INSTALLING DRIVERS

  1. To avoid conficts with your display drivers, I recommend those with the ATI chipset switch to a standard generic display driver prior to running the MWAVE install. Click HERE for details.
  2. Close all running programs, especially Ring Central or other telephony applications. Tap CTRL+ALT+DEL and End Task on everything except Explorer.
  3. Insert Disk #1 of the MWAVE Drivers in the diskette (A:\) Drive
  4. Click your START button
  5. Click RUN
  6. Type A:\SETUP
  7. Click OK
  8. When the software has completed removing the existing version, you will be prompted to either choose upgrade or to remove the adapter card from your system. If you are removing the software from your system, the install will return you to the desk top and instruct you to power off and unplug your PC, at which time you can remove your adapter card.
  9. If this is an upgrade, then the install will reboot your machine, at which time you can continue the installation process from step #10 in the installation (below). Follow the installation process to completion.
  10. The NEW HARDWARE FOUND window appears with the option to select the driver you want to install. Select "Driver from disk provided by hardware manufacturer" and Click OK.
  11. The INSTALL FROM DISK window appears. Insert Disk #1 of the MWAVE Drivers in your floppy drive and Click OK. (If the disk location is other than the default drive (A:\) change the designation before clicking OK.)
  12. When prompted, Insert Disk #2 of the drivers and Click OK
  13. When prompted, Insert Disk #3 of the drivers and Click OK
  14. Follow installation instructions. After the final disk is loaded, Windows 95 displays screens enumerating the new hardware.
  15. Once the Windows 95 desk top is displayed, a secondary install will launch automatically creating a folder.
  16. Remove the diskette when prompted.
  17. The hardware is now installed and fuctional.

INSTALLING MIDI SAMPLES

  1. Insert Disk #1 of the MIDI Samples in your floppy drive
  2. Click Start

  4. Type A:\SETUP
  5. Click OK
  6. You will be prompted to choose the path in which to install the samples Click OK to use the recommended default path (C:\MWAVE\MIDIMED)
  7. When prompted, Insert Disk #2 of the MIDI Samples and Click OK
  8. When prompted, Insert Disk #3 of the MIDI Samples and Click OK
  9. Answer YES to allow the Windows synthesizer to use this sample set when prompted
  10. Answer YES to allow the DOS synthesizer to use this sample set when prompted
  11. Answer YES (AGAIN) to allow the Windows synthesizer to use this sample set when prompted
  12. Reboot your machine when the installation completes

Things To Note
  • The 20E drivers seem to not have many of the same issues as the 20D companion files for the Dolphin chipset. The install seems simpler, no additional upgrades (AudioStation etc) are required and I have yet to hear of Stingray owners reporting all the MIDI et al problems (see 20D ISSUES). As the 20E drivers were issued a week or so after the 20D my information is not as complete concerning 20E. Those installing these files are invited to email their experiences and any bug reports.

  • Be aware that Stingray owners have an option as far as drivers. Cyber-A, a company that releases a version of the Stingray card called the MWAVE PARROT has also released a version of 20E. While these files are not supported by IBM (nor does Cyber-A for non-Parrot owners for that matter) a nice plus is that I have a file available that can provide 56K SUPPORT on Sxx and other Stingray equipped Aptivas with the Cyber-A version of 20E.
