Year-Round School

 Donoho - A Year-Round School?

Although no official announcement was ever made after the administration's  determined push for YRS in 1998, after several meetings and much discussion with many Donoho parents and the Board of Directors, the Donoho Administration has apparently placed the Year-Round School issue on the back burner indefinitely.  Donoho remains on the Traditional Calendar for the 2004-2005 school year and for the foreseeable future.

Were it not for the efforts of concerned parents and teachers in the Donoho family to learn the truth about Year-Round School and share it with others, there is little doubt that The Donoho School would have switched to a Year-Round Calendar by now.

We will continue to maintain and update this website, and hope it will serve as a source of information and inspiration to those who want to learn the truth about Year-Round Education and its effect on students and their families.  We encourage anyone interested in this issue to make his or her own informed decision about its value and share it with others.

The information available on this site and others it is linked to has caused administrators, teachers and parents from a number of schools to rethink their position and change direction.  Year-Round School is definitely not a new idea - it is up to each individual to decide if it is a good one.  It has been said that a smart man learns from his mistakes, a wise man learns from someone else's.

Everyone agrees that The Donoho School is already providing an excellent academic education.  The question that must be answered is this:

Do we want our children to be year-round students or well-rounded students?

Following are some blue underlined links you can click on to access some information you might find useful as you answer this question for yourself.  Please feel free to share this information with anyone in any way you see fit.

An excellent source of information on year-round education is the organization Time To Learn at www.schoolyear.info. You can learn more about this organization by clicking on their name to go to their website.

Most (but not all) of the information you will find through these links supports the idea of a traditional school calendar.  This is because of the simple fact that the vast majority of the credible information we found in our research supports the traditional school calendar.

The Donoho parents who support the current calendar and offer this information to you do so because of what they have learned about Year-Round Education and the effect it has on children and their families.  We hope anyone with a different opinion will objectively review this material (as well as any additional information you can locate), study the matter carefully and come to your own conclusions.
