Douglas Webster is enjoying a widely varied career as a performer.   His repertoire includes opera, musical theater, chamber music, solo recital and solo with orchestra.   Recently, he was Interim Director of Opera Theater for the University of Oregon in Eugene.  Under his guidance, the UO Opera Theater made its' first New York Showcase appearance this past May. Currently, he is playing the role of Jean Valjean for the Broadway Rose Theater Company in Portland, Oregon.  Performances of Valjean will continue with regional theater companies through the coming 2008-2009 season.

Winner of the Joy In Singing and Concert Artists Guild awards, Douglas Webster has performed as soloist in concert and recital in forty-six of the United States and Europe.  He made his stage debut in 1988 singing the role of 'the Celebrant' in Leonard Bernstein's epic theater work MASS at the Tanglewood Festival for the composer's 70th Birthday Gala.  He then joined the National tour (Marius company)
of Les Misérables.  He later joined the Broadway company of the Les Miz at the Imperial theater.

Considered the foremost interpreter of Leonard Bernstein's MASS, he has led over twenty productions as soloist, producer and stage director in venues including Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, The Vatican and with symphony orchestras in Dallas, Denver, Columbus and Portland among others.  The DVD recording of MASS from Vatican City (Kultur Video) is the only video available of the work.  Internationally, he also performed the role of the Celebrant in Latvia, Lithuania and across Spain.  His production company was engaged by the Dallas Symphony for their commemoration of the life of John F. Kennedy in 2003.

As soloist with orchestra, he performs standard baritone repertoire including: Carmina Burana, Brahms' Requiem, and Vaughan Williams' Sea Symphony.   For symphonic pops concerts, he has frequently performed with the pops trio BRAVO BROADWAY! and currently, with  THE BROADWAY BARITONES show.  Website: BroadwayBaritones.com

With Hollywood pianist, Lincoln Mayorga, Douglas Webster toured for two seasons for Community Concerts performing over one hundred concerts together.  He has performed chamber music with festivals in Santa Fe, Rockport, Fredericksburg, Juneau, Breckenridge, Aspen, Madison, and Round Top, Texas.  His chamber music recordings include Schumann's Dichterliebe (Yamaha), Klezmer Rondos (New World), And David Danced Before the Lord (Koch/Milkin Archive) and a collection of 20th century chamber music released on the Eco Classics label including Ravel's Chansons Madécasse and Barber's Dover Beach.

At the end of his tour with Les Miz, he returned to classical vocal studies and an apprenticeship with the Santa Fe Opera.   His opera roles include Don Giovanni (Shreveport Opera), Eisenstein in Die Fledermaus (Virginia Opera, Eugene Opera), Philip Marshall in the opera by Seymour Barab (Northern Plains Opera) and recordings of John Philip Sousa's El Capitan (El Capitan) on Zephyr Records and Copland's The Tender Land (Top) on Koch Records.   His other recordings include the voice of Prince Charming on the Grammy nominated A Disney Spectacular (Telarc) with Erich Kunzel and the Concinnati Pops. 

While commited to his own performance schedule, Douglas Webster created a program to nurture young singers in their pursuit of music as a profession and avocation.  Since 1999, the American Singer Seminar brings successfully working vocalists together with aspiring young singers..  Past participants of the Musical Theater Intensive program are currently appearing on Broadway, National tour and in regional theaters across the country.  Website: AmericanSinger.com

Douglas Webster received his Bachelor of Music degree from Indiana University and Master of Music degree from Northwestern University in voice and opera stage direction.  Further studies continued at The Banff Centre and the Centre Internationale de Formation Musicale in Nice, France.  His teachers include: Nicola Rossi-Lemeni, Paul Kittle, Gérard Souzey, Norman Gulbrandsen, William Shriner and Lorraine Nubar.  Anything he does correctly as an actor is the responsibility of Ann Ducati.
