Leman Russ "Erika"
This is not a stock Leman Russ, nor is
it a Forgeworld piece. The conversions I did to this include removing
the short portion of the main gun's barrel, and replacing it with a longer
piece of plastic tubing. The other major addition is the towing cable,
made from picture hanging wire, aluminum tubing, and short pieces of brass
rod bent to form an 'eye hook'. I added large pieces of brass rod
to the tank with a drill bit and glue to represent the mount for the towing
cable.
The decals on "Erika" are a combination
of decals from Games Workshop and a few custom decals that I designed and
printed up myself with an Alps thermal printer. The decals I made
myself are the white and red numerals, the kill rings on the barrel, and
the name "Erika" on the barrel as well. The other decals, the black
lightning in yellow circle and the white skull on black diamond, are from
GW.
If you have extra decals of either of
these two GW decals (black lightning in yellow circle and the white skull
on black diamond), please email me
as I'm in desperate need of more.
I painted this Leman Russ in a similar
style to the Chimera on the prior page, with a few minor differences.
The main difference is that I added some brown chalks to the model after
the model was painted and sealed, like the Chimera. The chalks look
great, but tend to wear off with handling, so I made a simple display base
for the contest.
The base consists of model railroad
ballast painted in various shades of brown and tan, cat litter painted in
grays for the rocks, and light green static grass. Quite simple, but
it looks good.
