News

01/15/2006 - My site has been online for 9 years now.  When I first put the site up, there were very few places online where you could get informtion about painting.  9 years later, and there are 100's of quility sites available.  Although my site is not as popular as it once was, people still find it useful, so I'll continue to support and maintain it.  If you have any suggestions on ways I can improve it, or things you'd like to see added, please drop me a line and I'll see what I can do.

Miniature painting and gaming

Miniature painting is the art of painting pewter or lead figurines used for tabletop wargaming. The figures are used in such games as Dungeons and Dragons, by TSR, and Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000, both by Games Workshop. On this site you will find photos and tips on how to paint your own miniatures. The figures shown on this site are manufactured by Games Workshop, unless otherwise noted.

There are many games currently on the market that use miniatures. The most popular are table top war games, such as Warhammer (fantasy) and Warhammer 40,000 (science fiction). Unable to cover all the aspects of the games, I've included links to other sites that detail the gaming aspect of this hobby. Instead, this site is devoted to the painting aspect of the hobby.

About myself

My name is David Dresch, and I've been painting miniatures on and off since 1981. While in high school I painted figures for use in Dungeons and Dragons. During this period, most of my resulting miniatures were dark, due to numerous black and brown washes. Upon entering a local university in 1984 I gave up painting for other pursuits. Then, in 1990 I stumbled upon a White Dwarf magazine. This magazine had photos of science fiction miniatures, called Eldar, painted in bright colors. I purchased this magazine and read it from cover to cover. So inspired was I, that I began painting again. Over time I learned new styles and techniques. I even went on to win several local and national painting contests. Most notable was the Golden Demon contest sponsored by Games Workshop. I took first place in 1993 for best Warhammer 40,000 army. In 1994 I had two second place finishes: Warhammer command group and Design a Space Marine chapter. After several years away from completition, I returned in 2003, where I placed 3rd with a 40K vehicle.  For photos of these and other miniatures I've painted, travel through the various pages of my site. All miniatures and scenery on these pages were painted by myself, unless otherwise noted.
