The following links go to pages that show the various bits of information that are contained in a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) of an Oldsmobile product from 1963 to 1991.

These pages contain information that was available to me. They are not all-inclusive and should not necessarily be considered a definitive source. They will, however, show you some of the VIN codes that were used over the years. I have tried to be as complete as possible.

Oldsmobile changed the layout of a VIN at various times. The 1963 and 1964 VIN's follow the same layout. The next group of similar VIN's span the years 1965 through 1971. The VIN layout that started in 1972 carried through to 1980.

Here's some hints:

• VIN's from 1963 are nine digits long.
• VIN's from 1964 are ten digits long.
• VIN's from 1965-1971 are thirteen digits long and the year is the sixth digit in the VIN (5,6,7,8,9,0,1).
• VIN's from 1972-1980 are thirteen digits long and the year is the sixth digit in the VIN (2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,A).
• VIN's from 1981 to the present are seventeen digits in length and the year is the tenth digit in the VIN (B,C,D,E,F,G,H,I,J,K,L,M,...).
