PLANT CITY INTERLOCKING

Plant City is perhaps known best for its famous Strawberry Festival, but to railfans in Central Florida it is also a great trainwatching spot. The CSX line from Orlando crosses the CSX line that heads north to Wildwood, Ocala, then on to Jacksonville. (The background here represents those yummy Plant City Strawberries.)

A southbound mixed freight makes a turn to the west towards Tampa after crossing the diamond. The train was powered by five units.

All five units of the above train were visible here at Zephyr Hills about 15 miles north of Plant City.

Plant City is about ten miles northwest of Mulberry. This southbound was carrying empty phosphate hoppers back to Bone Valley's phosphate mines for which Mulberry is well known. Note the cross to the far right, a warning of the importance of staying clear of the tracks while railfanning.

An eastbound mixed freight literally bangs across the diamond towards Orlando. Led by a former L&N unit, this train had a hefty lashup and was really moving even though traveling right thru downtown Plant City.

Fifty-fifty here as EMD and GE share another load of mixed freight headed east towards Orlando.
