Ed is my dad and this is my opportunity to brag about him to the whole world. I think it was about time the rest of the world knows more about the man who is already famous amoung West Coast carvers!
Ed is a big man with an even bigger heart, and an always ready laugh that is almost as famous as his decoys!
Ed Has been waterfowling and carving since he could lift a gun and wield a knife. He was an expert carver and painter at age 13, when he was carving
for "shell money". He would carve and sell by the dozen back then, not realizing that he was setting the standards for west coast carvers in the years to follow.
At 70 years old, Ed has more energy than
a teenager, hunting, fishing and carving almost every day. He is a true sportsman with an unequaled love of the outdoors.
Ed is a member and donor to Ducks Unlimited and California Waterfowl Association. He is also a member of many carving and decoy associations, such as the "Pacific Flyway Decoy Association", where he has won countless best of show and first place awards. He has been featured in many newspapers, like the Sacramento Bee, and in books, such as Wildfowl Decoys of the Pacific Coast. Ed also recently received a "Certificate of Recognition" from the California State Senate for 50 years of waterfowl carving.
His decoy customers have ranged from friends (and he has alot) to senators and movie stars. Some buy just to enjoy the artistry, some for the investment, and believe it or not, some buy to shoot over! Decoy carving is a folk art and when Ed goes to "the big duck pond above" (God forbid), his art style goes with him. He has trained an apprentice, Steve Esperson, also of Rio Vista, but each carver developes his own look and style. The value of Ed's decoys will only appreciate with time. But, in my opinion, the value of his decoys lie in the man that made them. If you haven't met Ed, you have missed a great opportunity in life!

Here are pictures of a few of Ed's decoys, just to give you an idea of his artistry, but the photos don't do them justice!
Ed's decoys vary in prices depending on the type (decorative, shooting grade, or a cross between the two) and the species you want. They range in price from a "shooting grade Teal" for $300 to a "lifesized decorative Canadian Honker" for $2000.
Please keep in mind...
Each decoy is hand made and hand painted to order on a first-come-first-served basis. This means no two are exactly alike
