GOLDEN VIRGINIA

My tobacco tin,
smooth from much use
yields a pungent, earth-sweet aroma

I un-sleeve a paper
with gum interfolded,
while I kneed and I press
pinch and extract
a tangle of strands of
Virginia's best

I tease and I pick
align and adjust
before a flicker of fingers

A nip and a tuck
a touch of the tongue

Then out rolls the stick
For ignition!

Scottie

A little boy came into this world
in April of 73
He showed a little sixteen year old girl
how precious life could be

In 73' a girl all alone
was looked down on by the town folk
The family stood together
and fought off their terrible jokes

It's twenty seven years later
a lot of pain, a lot of care
I am the mother of that precious boy...
the one who had no hair

That little boy, who is now a man
is the apple of my eye
He grew up smart
handsome and kind
he's really quite a guy

If I sound like I am bragging
I guess you can say that it's true
I'm just a mom who loves her son
Scottie--perfection
through and through.

why not?

Here we go 'round the mulberry bush
the mulberry bush

And little Jack horner
did the cow really jump over the moon?

A way to live--a way to give
sharing your ice-cream with some kid

A person that fits in the palm of your hand
a stick that won a war
and statues in the grass

Old Mother Hubbard
poor Humpty Dumpty
and who live in a shoe?

Far away places visited
without making a move

Good ole Saint Nick
but then there was Scrooge

Can't I stay a kid?

If I were Rich

If I were rich
I'd drive a  nice sports car
keep diamonds by the jar
have an indoor pool
own every single tool

Have a giant big screen
get to watch a movie scene
I'd marry Cristie Brinklie

My slacks would never be wrinkly
learn to use a bow and arrow
buy the riches of the Pharaoh
earn maximum wage
be on the news-- front page

Own a tiger for a pet
make a million dollars off a bet
own a super computer
be a long distance commuter

Play my virtual reality computer game
grow a field of sugar cane
a mansion with golden door knobs
and butlers, mobs and mobs

The mansion would be seven floors high
an observatory to watch the sky
My casino would be huge
in the back there'd be a  place to luge

Each night I'd have a feast to consume
then I'd go have some fun in the game room
I'd own my own jazz band
the best you could hear in the land

On the roof would be a chopper
with golden blades atop her
I'd own a diamond mine
all gold and silver would be mind

Hey! Who are you calling spoiled!?

My Love For You

Just why I feel the way I do
I'm really not quite sure--
My love for you is incredible
Unconditional and so pure

Maybe it's your voice
That brightens me when I'm upset
You turn the world to face the sun
You're the greatest that I've met

Maybe it's the words you speak
so perfect each and every day
Or the way I think about you
Whenever, you're away

Maybe it's the way you make me smile
At which you never fail

Or how I know it's you
when I hear "You've Got Mail"
Maybe it's how I feel so secure
the protection I get from you
I like your sense of humor
and your personality, too

Maybe it's how you comfort me
when my parents make me mad
I don't know what I'd do without you
you're the brother I never had

I think it's all these things
why I feel the way I do
I guess I wanted you to remember
just how much I love you.
