John C. Dvorak's AOL-based Vanity Page

Welcome to the redesigned Dvorak Vanity Page. This site is used by columnist John C. Dvorak to promote himself and to test unusual new Web Tools. This site was designed using Web Express.

Doing Your Own Web Page

The pupose of this page is to show people how easy it is to design a quick web page without going to outsiders to do it. When I wrote a column about this in PC/Computing I can't tell you how many people wrote in complaining about my assertion that everyone should learn HTML and find some tools so they can get a personal (and maybe even a commercial) Web site started. The complaints were from people who sold their services as designers for lots of money. In the early days of the Web people were being charged 10's of thousands of dollars to have a site designed. Some of these sites were horrific and clearly a rip-off. One day while at the Sacramento PC Users Groups a couple of years ago some guy stood up and said he'd do web pages for $50 a page. When I heard this I knew something was wrong. It turns out that for simple pages $50 sounds about right.

Using Web Express I managed to do this page from beginning to end in less than one hour. That included the time it takes to go to AOL and post it on the site.
