The Society

The West Virginia Genealogical Society, Inc. was organized in 1983. Membership is open to all who are interested in genealogical or historical research and in the objectives of the Society, which are:

• to increase interest in genealogical research and compilation.
• to aid members in the act of genealogical research and compilation.
• to acquaint members with sources of genealogical research.
• to serve as a medium of exchange of genealogical information.
• to promote the collection, preservation and utilization of materials of genealogical value.                                                                                                                                                                                                                  Our mailing address is:

Dues

Annual membership is $15.00 per person and includes four issues of the LOG. Dues are payable annually on each members membership date.

Meetings

The Society meets the second Thursday of each month at 7:00 pm at the WVGS Library.

Library

The WVGS Library is located near Elkview on Route 119. From the Elkview exit on interstate 79, it is two miles north on Route 119. The Library is open Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm and on Saturdays from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Everyone is welcome. The Society does not have a staff of researchers, but does have a correspondence committee. PHONE (304) 965-1179.

Queries

Queries should be type written or printed legibly and include the name and address of the person to whom replies should be sent. Queries are free to members, $3 for the first 50 words for non-members. There is no limit on how many queries may be submitted.

Publications

The LOG (Ledger of Genealogy) is a quarterly publication that consists of articles of general genealogical value, source data from original documents and other material of interest to researchers. The LOG is published in March, June, September and December of each year. The LOG began publication in March of 1984, and all back issues are available for purchase at $3 per copy.  The Society also publishes other special works that can be purchased from the Society, click here to see a list of our published resources.
