(Mateo 5:13-16)

You are the salt of the earth...you are the light of the world...Let your light shine before men that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in Heaven. (Matthew: 5: 13-16)

Amen.

Prayer to the Holy Spirit

Holy Spirit, You Who make me see everything and Who show me the way to reach my ideals; You who give me the divine gift to forgive and forget all that is done to me; and You Who are in all the instances of my life with me. I want to thank You for everything and confirm once more that I want never to be separated from You, no matter how great the material desires may be. I want to be with You and my loved ones in Your Perpetual Glory. Amen.

REFLEXIONES / REFLECTIONS

"The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few" (Mt. 9:37) is an appeal from Jesus. A call for discipleship. He is inviting all of us to be His disciples. The time for spiritual revival is now. We must not delay. We must not stop. We must not even slow down. The urgency to the discipleship is here. As we have been reconciled to the Father and received our salvation to the fullest, He wants us to proclaim the Good News of Salvation, to awaken many to take a greater part in His work. Just as Jesus summoned His twelve apostles to go and proclaim the Good News, cure every disease and every sickness, we too are summoned to take a greater part of His work, to win more disciples and to send them into His harvest.

Our Lord Jesus through His Sacred Heart calls us to be His followers. To follow Christ, we must take up our cross daily. Each day we have a cross to bear: problems with our children, a hard day's work, bills we cannot pay. Some days, we feel resentment and rejection, and other days, loss enters our lives.

And yet, Jesus invites us to follow Him and behave as He did: when the soldiers actually nailed Him to the cross, He forgave them. So also, when our daily cross weighs heavily on us, God calls us to forgive and to give generously as He did.

Paul exhorts us in Romans 5 verses 3-5 to rejoice in our sufferings: "We can rejoice too when we run into problems and trials for we know that they are good for us-they help us learn to be patient. And patience develops strength of character in us and helps us trust God more each time we use it until finally our hope and faith are strong and steady. Then, when that happens, we are able to hold our heads high no matter what happens and know that all is well, for we know how dearly God loves us, and we feel this warm love everywhere within us because God has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with His love."

The cross won't go away in our daily lives. Let us therefore follow Christ's example by leaving our resentments and self-pity behind as we focus on doing what Jesus would do: TO FORGIVE, and then move ahead in commitment and service to Our Lord and our community by going forth to be fishers of men.
