What is Nn3 you ask? Well, the first N is the designation for N scale which means that the models are built to the scale of 160:1. The second n stands for Narrow gauge with the number indicating the scale distance between the rails in either inches or feet. So Nn3 means N scale railroad modeling a railroad 3 feet between the rails. Most of these types of railroads were located in Colorado. Most of my Nn3 works have been projects, many of these in conjunction with my good friend Keith Koch. (who has since gone on to larger scales, although we still work together)

The shot above is one taken on a Diorama that my friend Keith and I built back about 1980 or so. The overall size was 30" x 48". It is a model of the small town of Red Mountain based on information in Bob Sloans book, the Rainbow Route and visits to the site. The turnouts were stubs and the harp switchstands were brass etchings that would at least move with the turnouts.
This shot was taken on a display that I had initially planned to build into a complete layout. This scene was based on a small town in Colorado called Greymont. My version of Greymont had far more activity than the real one did!
What have I done lately, you ask? Well, I have been working on my coffee table project for starters. This is a two by four foot, dual gauge operating display that is intended for use as a Coffee table. It will be covered with glass and will also have glass sides. The trackwork is all code 40 and the structures mostly scratchbuilt. Scroll down for an overhead view.

This is the overhead view of the new coffee table layout. The mining area is in the lower left and the main town is on the right side as we view it here.
