Everett Mountain Rescue Unit, Inc.

Mountain climbers who are volunteer search and rescuers.

Located in Snohomish County, State of Washington, USA. EMRU primarily services an area north of King County (Seattle), south of Skagit Co., between Puget Sound to the west and the Cascade mountain range crest to the east. Mutual aid to other areas.

We are recreational mountain climbers whose skills are helpful for lost and injured in rugged terrains. Anyone living in the County, with a basic mountaineering course, is encouraged to join. There is no cost to join. SAR training is provided. The time commitment is up to you.

In the State of Washington, the County Sheriff (or National Park) is responsible for search and rescue. To report an emergency from within Snohomish County, call 9-1-1. To report a Snohomish County emergency from out of county call 425-743-3400.

There is no charge for our services. Donations are always appreciated to help purchase new ropes, slings, hardware and equipment. United Way participants can direct their tax-deductible contributions to us. Thank you for your support.

Meets the first Monday of the month (second Monday if first falls on a holiday) at 7:00 pm at the Counties’ SAR base, Taylor’s Landing. It is NE of the intersection of Highways 2 and 9. Take Highway 2 east from I-5 in Everett to the Hwy 9 exit. From the end of the off ramp, turn left onto Hwy 9 (heading north). Head north for 1/10 of a mile to Bunk Foss Road (also shown as New Bunk Foss Road, this will be just north of Hwy 9). Turn right at Bunk Foss Road and follow this downhill until you reach a stop sign at Old Machias Road (there may not be a street sign, but look for a yellow gate on your right). Turn right onto Old Machias Road and follow this road through a large yellow gate for 1/8 of a mile to its end. Follow the driveway (through the smaller metal gate) that is straight off the end of the road which winds its way to the top of a hill with two large metal buildings. This is Taylor’s Landing.  The large west most building upstairs is where me meet.

Formed in 1954 and incorporated as a not for profit organization in 1960, EMRU is member of the Washington region and a founding member the Mountain Rescue Association. EMRU is 1 of 6 SAR teams of  Snohomish County Volunteer Search and Rescue Association.
