Dear Viewer,
This is a collection of antique postcards of the Lake Cherokee
Historic District, which is located south-east of downtown Orlando, Florida. Some of these
postcards date from the very early 1900s. In assembling my collection of postcards, I have
limited my acquisitions to only those cards which depict some part of the Lake Cherokee
Historic District or some part of Lake Lucerne.
The "deltiologist" or postcard collector
should keep in mind that my primary purpose is to display these postcards for their
historical value. I have used the computer to restore damaged portions of certain cards
and to remove any handwriting from the front surface. I have also added white borders
around all the cards so as to present a uniform appearance for this web site. To the best
of my ability, I have attempted to determine the age of some of the postcards shown and I
have provided that information in the caption that accompanies those cards.
One of my 18 cards is shown below, which depicts a
sunset over Lake Lucerne.

The highlighted portion in the map below indicates the area included within the Lake Cherokee Historic District. The numbers 1-5 on the map refer to five major features of the district: 1. Lake Lucerne, 2. The Doctor Phillips House, 3. Hovey's Court, 4. Lake Cherokee, and 5. Cherokee Park.
My collection of postcards is organized into five sections corresponding to the above five features. Simply click on the appropriate portion of the map or click on its counterpart in the list that follows. Each postcard is accompanied by a descriptive caption that includes the vantage point and the direction of the view shown in the card.
More
information about the Lake Cherokee Historic District can be found at the web site
hosted by the City of Orlando. This site has contemporary photographs of houses within the
district and also includes links to the other historic districts in Orlando.
