Evangelism in the Diocese of Southwest Florida

The following information was taken from the Diocesan web site (more information would be welcome):

From the Bishop's address to Diocesan Convention:

Diocesan Mission and Priorities

Last year this Convention accepted the Great Commission as the mission statement for the Diocese of Southwest Florida. We have set as our corporate agenda going into the world to proclaim the love of God and the Gospel of salvation that we have discovered in Christ Jesus. We are reminded in the Acts of the Apostles that the apostolic and catholic nature of ministry is to be found as we live the Gospel imperative in four arenas. Jesus called us to be his witnesses in Jerusalem, in Judea, in Samaria and to the ends of the earth. No one of these arenas for mission can be given priority over another without doing violence to the Gospel. To live into the imperative of the Great Commission you accepted four priorities for our common life.

1.  The development of the ministry of all baptized persons.

2.  The enhancement of the life and ministry of our local congregations.

3.  The extension of the church in our own diocese through the development of new congregations.

4.The serious undertaking of bringing the Good News of God in Christ Jesus into the world.

In much of what I have already reported, we see the Diocese of Southwest Florida at work through the congregations and deaneries in concert with the Bishop living into the mission and ministry of an apostolic and catholic Church.

The Diocese has started one new congregation which was welcomed at the October 1998 Convention, and is planning two more, for which church planters have been hired.
