EpiscoCalendar
for 3Com PalmPilot (Palm OS 2.0)
EpiscoCalendar is an electronic version of the US Episcopal Churchs (ECUSA) ecclesiastical calendar. Its features include:
|
The Daily View contains three major sections of data.
The top third of the form displays the day title. If the day is a feast or fast day, the title is displayed with the days color following in parentheses. If the day is a Principal Feast, Sunday, or Holy Day, the information is displayed in bold type. If there are no observances on that day, the day name followed by the current Sunday title is used (i.e. "Monday in 3 Easter"). The middle third of the form displays the season title, liturgical color, Eucharist Lectionary Year (A, B, or C), and the Daily Office Lectionary Year (I or II). The bottom third of the form displays the Sunday titles for both the current Sunday and the upcoming Sunday for the date given. Note that during the season after Pentecost the Proper number is given in parentheses after the Sunday name. The triangles in the upper right corner are used to increment and decrement the day being displayed. The "NT" next to the triangles is the "No Transfer" indicator, see "Holy Day Transfer" below. The "DWMBER" boxes in the bottom left portion of the form are used to switch views. Please note that Thanksgiving Day, Ember Days, and Rogation Days are not displayed on this form. |
|
The Weekly View form displays all observances for a given week. . If
the day is a Principal Feast, Sunday, or Holy Day, the information is displayed
in bold type. If there are no observances on that day, the display is blank
for that day.
The "day of the week" abbreviations are buttons that will jump to the Daily View form and show the details for that given day. The triangles in the upper right corner are used to increment and decrement the week being displayed. |
| The Moveable Holy Days view displays major holidays of the church year
whose date is not fixed to a specific calendar date but is either relative
to Easter or always on a fixed "day of the week".
The triangles in the upper right corner are used to increment and decrement the year being displayed. The "DWMBER" boxes in the bottom left portion of the form are used to switch views. |
|
The Holy Baptismal Dates view displays the dates specified by the Book
of Common Prayer (ECUSA: 1979) as especially appropriate for Holy Baptism.
The triangles in the upper right corner are used to increment and decrement the year being displayed. The "DWMBER" boxes in the bottom left portion of the form are used to switch views. |
|
The Ember Days view displays the dates specified by the Book of Common
Prayer (ECUSA: 1979) as Ember Days.
The triangles in the upper right corner are used to increment and decrement the year being displayed. The "DWMBER" boxes in the bottom left portion of the form are used to switch views. |
|
The Rogation Days view displays the dates specified by the Book of
Common Prayer (ECUSA: 1979) as Rogation Days.
The triangles in the upper right corner are used to increment and decrement the year being displayed. The "DWMBER" boxes in the bottom left portion of the form are used to switch views. |
There are two menus available on each form: the Commands Menu and the Edit Menu.
|
There are three options on the Commands Menu: Change Date, Create Transfer, and About. The Change Date option displays the standard PalmPilot change date form. The Create Transfer option invokes the transfer calculations to be performed as described below. The About option displays the about box dialog. | |
|
There are two options on the Edit Menu: Copy and Select All. The Copy option will copy the selected text into the clipboard. The select all will select the entire contents of the field that the user touched on the displayed form. Note that text not currently visible will also be copied as when a Holy Day title is selected from the Weekly View form. |
Holy Day Transfer calculations are invoked either through the Commands Menu or by "Command Stroke - T".
Once invoked, a transfer table will be calculated for the year currently being displayed. This process takes up to a minute and your PalmPilot will appear "frozen" during the duration.
The transfers of Holy Days is processed according to the rules established on pages 15 18 of the Book of Common Prayer (ECUSA: 1979). Once processed, the "NT" will no longer be displayed ("NT" No Transfer). You must invoke this command for each year you wish to see Holy Days transferred. Once created, the transfer table will be stored until the EpiscoCalendar application is erased from your PalmPilot.
Example:
|
|
In this example, the week of January 18, 1998 is displayed. In the picture on the right, the day of commemoration for Bishop Wulfstan is shown for Monday, January 19 and the Holy Day celebrating "The Confession of Saint Peter" is not displayed because Sunday observance has precedence. After the Create Transfer option has been executed, "The Confession of Saint Peter" is transferred to Monday and "bumps" commemoration for Bishop Wulfstan for 1998. |
| EpiscoCalendar remaps the "Date Book Button" to invoke the standard PalmPilot
Date Book. If you map EpiscoCalendar to the "Date Book Button" through the
standard Preferences application, when you press the "Date Book Button"
EpiscoCalendar will toggle with the standard Date Book applications.
