Adeline Lincoln from Toksook Bay is 65 years old. She has been practicing the art of making grass baskets, grass plates and dance fans for over 50 years. She is a Yup'ik Eskimo who was born and
raised in Kuingartelleq which is an old village site near Newtok in South Western Alaska. She remembers the days when her family lived a nomadic lifestyle seasonally traveling by dog sled and packing only a few
items necessary for survival. She remembers how important dogs were for travel and how few there were. Most of the time they traveled by sled, with her father pushing or pulling the load. Each year they
had to journey from the Napakiak area to Nelson Island by sled. This is about a 100 mile trek in a harsh, sub-arctic enviornment.
The bond she felt with her Father was very strong, and she rembembers being with him all the time. Her mother passed away when she was only a child. Adeline's stories of the past tell of hardship and the will to
survive. They had to work hard to live. Adeline is married to Alois Lincoln and they have 9 children and 23 grandchildren.
