We Believe

We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God.

We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in his vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.

We believe that for the salvation of lost and sinful mankind, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential.

We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life.

We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation.

We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.

About Us

We are the voices of those who have been there… gay Christians who at one time were involved in the ex-gay movement. We believed God did not accept us as gays and lesbians so we turned to the ex-gay ministries for their expertise to help us "change."
The promises of "Freedom from homosexuality" proclaimed by ex-gay leadership compelled us to do whatever they asked in order to regain God’s favor and grace. Often this was a very painful and difficult struggle lasting for months or years. Even after all that time however, we realized that the only thing that had changed was our behavior. The deep inner feelings and same-sex attractions remained and we were still gay.
Often this realization produced a crisis in our lives. Our faith was sincere, we obeyed and did everything we were asked in order to change, and yet we still remained homosexual... What was wrong? When we questioned ex-gay leadership about these inconsistencies we were told that we lacked faith, or that we were not trying hard enough. Some were even told that they were being disobedient and rebellious for asking questions.
At this point many gay Christians felt they could no longer trust their ex-gay leaders and consequently left the ex-gay movement. Once we stopped trying to change, our churches would no longer welcome us. This conditional acceptance was heartbreaking. Some were so wounded by their experience that suicide became the only way out. Still others, thinking that God had given up on them, embraced whatever the world offered in order to fill the void. Many of us retained a personal faith in Christ, but drifted into a spiritual wilderness to avoid the pain and rejection we felt in church.
As the ex-gay wounds gradually healed, may gay Christians came to realize that perhaps the reason we had not changed was not because we had not tried hard enough, but rather because God never required it in the first place. All the effort we had put into changing, (and the constant guilt and shame for not changing) was in vain if God accepted us just as we are.
This discovery (learned the hard way) lead us to closely examine what the Bible has to say about homosexuality. Cutting through the assumptions and preconceptions traditionally presented as "truth", we believe that the condemnation of loving gay & lesbian relationships is unjustified.
The integration of our faith and our sexual orientation has been a difficult but important process in finding a sense of wholeness in our lives. Through education and the support of many gay affirming congregations and organizations around the country we have found the freedom to once again trust God and renew our spiritual lives.
Healthy and meaningful lives of faith are a reality for gay Christians and we hope that others will find this freedom as we share our past experiences in the ex-gay movement.
