The car is a gray 1990 240DL wagon with 174k miles. I bought the car in the fall of 1997. At the time it was purchased it had 125K miles and it needed a complete rebuild (not all Volvo engines last forever). With the new engine it has been running great and I have been very happy. In the late 1980's I owned a 1974 145 (wagon) which I also liked but the 240 is far superior in ride, stability, power, and overall feeling of safety (it just feels like a much sturdier car). Unfortunately, I don't have any photos of the 145 but it was a dark green stick shift four speed (thank god it was a stick as a friend had a '74 142 automatic and that was REALLY underpowered). The 145 met its demise at 155k miles when it's engine made very loud noises and lost all power. I sold the car for only $200 as its rear quarter panel had a major dent in addition to the lack of engine. I didn't get another Volvo until this car but I always like the wagons size, not too big but with the back seats down big enough to sleep in. We have five kids and so the seven us can all fit in this car with the third seat. If you have any questions about my Volvo experiences please email me.
Over the course of owning this car I've had the muffler (very common Volvo item), water pump, tires, fixed the
rear driver side automatic window (front passenger one just went out), various suspension bushings, motor mounts,
shocks, brakes (pads and
rotors), an odd electrical problem, and other common items (spark plugs etc.) replaced. All in all it cost me about
$500 to $1000 a year to keep her running.

My mom's 1980 240 DL (245).

This is my mom's wagon. She bought it with 175K miles for $1,500 just over a year ago. She (the car not my mom) is a beige color, stick shift, brown vinyl interior, burns a little oil but runs good, with a minimal amout of rust.(23k image). |
