Regeneration!
What is regeneration?
Regeneration, put simply, is just our receiving God's life and nature by
being born of Him as His children. Regeneration is a great topic in God's
holy word the Bible. Many people do not realize that what God desires is
not a matter of good behavior but He desires that we would be born of Him
as His children with His life.
John 3:6 says "That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is
born of the Spirit is spirit." Notice in the last part of this verse, the
word spirit is mentioned twice. The first one is the Spirit of God. The second
is our human spirit, the deepest part of our being, made to contain God.
To be born of God is to be born of the Spirit. God as the Spirit comes into
us to regenerate us in our spirit when we believe into Jesus Christ.
John 20:17 "Jesus said to her, Do not touch Me, for I have not yet ascended
to the Father; but go to My brothers and say to them, I ascend to My Father
and your Father, and My God and your God."
To be born as a child of the Triune God with His very life and nature is
indeed an amazing and wonderful thing. In the verse above, the Lord Jesus
expresses that after His resurrection, God is not only His Father, but now
God is also the Father of those who believe. As we will see later, it is
also a very simple thing to receive this marvelous, permanent, eternal blessing
of the very life of God.
Why do we need regeneration?
Without God, human life is a meaningless contradiction. While we have the
desire to do good and express God, we also have the capacity and desire to
sin and express Satan. We are enslaved to sin.
Romans 7:15 "For what I work out, I do not acknowledge; for what I will,
this I do not practice; but what I hate, this I do."
This puts mankind under the same judgment as Satan, in Satan's kingdom under
Satan's rule.
Ephesians 2:3 "Among whom we also all conducted ourselves once in the lusts
of our flesh, doing the desires of the flesh and of the thoughts, and were
by nature children of wrath, even as the rest;"
Man needs to be born of God in order to have the life and living of God,
and to be satisfied deep within instead of empty and hollow. Because man
has sin, man expresses Satan's will, thoughts, desires, words and actions.
In order to be saved from this we must repent and turn to God and be regenerated
so that we will not suffer the eternal destruction prepared for Satan, God's
enemy.
God in His mercy, has given us a choice, to follow Satan into the lake of
fire, or to receive Christ and be joined with Him in life for eternity. This
is to enjoy the kingdom of God right now, and also forever more.
John 3:3 "Jesus answered and said to him, Truly, truly, I say to you, Unless
one is born anew, he cannot see the kingdom of God."
Why does God want us to be regenerated?
To be born of God is not only something great to satisfy our desires, but
this satisfies God's heart as well. He is pleased to give Himself to us,
as our life and our life supply. When God created man, He specifically created
him to contain God's life.
Genesis 1:26 "And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness..."
This verse shows that God's heart's desire was that He would eventually be
able to get into man. Just as a glove is made in the image of a hand to contain
the hand, so man was made to contain God. As the next verse shows, God desires
that there would be many brothers of Christ.
Romans 8:29 "Because those whom He foreknew, He also predestinated to be
conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the Firstborn among many
brothers;"
God does not want Christ to be the only son of God. In fact, God sacrificed
His only Son in order to produce more sons. His only begotten Son died and
resurrected to be a prototype, a model to produce many brothers.
John 12:24 "Truly, truly, I say to you, Unless the grain of wheat falls into
the ground and dies, it abides alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit."
Hebrews 2:11 "For both He who sanctifies and those who are being sanctified
are all of One, for which cause He is not ashamed to call them brothers,"
After we receive Christ into us and are thus regenerated, we are no longer
only God's creatures. We are also His beloved children.
2 Corinthians 6:18 "And I will be a Father to you, and you will be sons and
daughters to Me, says the Lord Almighty."
How can I be regenerated?
We are born again by receiving Christ. The way we receive Christ is just
by repenting and believing into Him. When we believe into Jesus Christ, we
receive Him and are born of God as in the next verse:
John 1:12-13 "But as many as received Him, to them He gave the authority
to become children of God, to those who believe into His name, who were begotten
not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of
God."
To receive the Lord Jesus Christ is very simple, you simply need to call
on His name from deep within, from your spirit, and you will receive Him
as your life.
John 20:31 "But these have been written that you may believe that Jesus is
the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing, you may have life in His
name."
Romans 10:12 "For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the
same Lord is Lord of all and rich to all who call upon Him; for 'whoever
calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.'"
To receive the Lord Jesus Christ right now, please open your heart honestly
and say to Him:
"Lord Jesus, I am a sinner. I need You. Thank You for dying for me. Lord
Jesus, forgive me. Cleanse me from all my sins. I believe You rose from the
dead. I receive You right now as my Savior and life. Come into me! Fill me
with the life of God. Lord Jesus, I give myself to You. Amen."
