Temporary Repeater Site

Here are some pictures for the temporary repeater site where the 146.640 repeater is now located.  Since the antenna is at 64 feet above ground, we call it the "64 at 64".  Unfortunately, this location at the fairgrounds, while near fairly high ground, is below street level in a bit of a dip.  Oh well, that explains why the range is severely limited until we move it about a quarter mile and stick it up a few hundred feet higher.

Enjoy the pictures thanks to Bill, KD4LLQ and his digital camera and Danny KD4RAA for letting us use his business facilities to house the antenna and equipment.

These pictures are not representative of what a digital camera can do, they have been highly compressed by JPG algorithms in order to make them as small as possible for downloading via the WEB.  Any strange jaggies and color banding are artifacts of that compression.  They are still very good though and show plenty of detail.

The "temporary" temporary antenna site.  While erecting the tower, we lashed the antenna to this railing with rubber tie down straps.

Close-up of the repeater as it was the day after HAMFEST 98.  The AEROTRON is at the bottom, repeater at the top, and receiver in the middle

Detail view showing the "cans" or diplexers that allow us to transmit and receive at such power with a transmitter and receiver on the same antenna only 600KHz apart from each other

A final note on this "not so final" installation.  We have been continually upgrading.  The top box in the pictures, the  RC-96 Controller, has been replaced with a new SCOM-7K, black, sleek, microprocessor controlled with status lights on the front.  Pictures will be forthcoming.  The power supply was in loan from WA4PEN and we finally gave it back and have a brand new, sleek, black Aerotron Unit in it's place.  As for the transceiver, we now have a mobile Micor mounted vertically in the space vacated by the old controller and have gotten rid of our old transceiver.  Thanks to Chuk, KB4MDZ for the use of his transceiver and for modifying and tuning it for 146.640.  Bill, myself, and Danny have it tweaked to do about the best it can do until we get it to it's new home, and replace the transceiver with yet another, custom built for us to PCRN specs.  It will be a beauty.  Just listen to the audio quality of the .88 repeater for an example.  Thanks for everybody's patience while we deal with politics and construction schedules that are beyond our control.
