Frank and I were privileged a few weeks ago to visit
and photograph the horses of Spirit Acres Farm.
The pictures below were taken on the first day there.

As we drove up the driveway,  we passed this sign.

We were greeted at the gate by Osa, a
beautiful and loving dog who was taken
in after being seen wandering around.
Osa is deaf.

The first sight we saw was this group of
"minis".

Silver and Bashful

This is Tuner.  He wasn't doing much
on this day, but the next day he was
full of energy.  You'll see more of Tuner
in Spirit Acres 2.

Domino has won this volunteer's heart.
He is HUGE,  but as gentle as a lamb.

Kat,  who is the president of Spirit Acres and
cares for the horses (at last count there are 60 of them!) full time.
She was trying to get Domino to play so we could get some
action shots...but he simply stood there like
the gentle giant he is.

This pretty one is Nitro.  He wanted to see if we
had any snacks,  but the other horses kept
running him off...I guess that's why he's
hanging his head!

This beauty's name is Majic, a 17 yr. old Arabian mare.
 She is absolutely gorgeous.

We took a few minutes away from taking
pictures to pet the horses.  Then we took
off into the far pastures.

One of the volunteer's was there,  trying to remove
some of the shrubs.  Looks like he needs a new,
or at least, better tractor.  Anyone have one to donate?

A little further out, we found Dixie, and

Shelby, and

Rasheena, and

Angyl, and

Sweetwater.

Sweetwater was being trained by a heartless man
who would twist an ear for misbehaving.  If you look,
you'll see the ears are flopped over from this treatment.

Frank caught the attention of Star, who wanted
to see if the camera tasted good!

And of course,  the star of Spirit Acres is Spirit.  She took an immediate liking to
Frank and claimed him as hers.  She would lay her ears back at me every time
I came near her.  Guess she didn't know who he was going home with!  Spirit was
abandoned on the side of a road when she was one day old.  Her umbilical cord was
still attached to her.  At four days old, she came to live at Spirit Acres.  She was so tiny,
she spent her first six weeks of life in the family home.  She is now 2 years old,
and still visits Kat and her family inside the house.  She never bothers anything,
just walks around sniffing things,  then goes back outside.
She is one of the lucky ones who found her way to
Spirit Acres Farms.

As we prepared to leave,  we spotted Cali.

He gave us a big grin and "Ya'll come back now".
