Welcome back to Spirit Acres Farm!  This is the second visit for
Frank and me.  The horses were more active today.
Kat is the President of Spirit Acres Farm and lives there.  She
cares for 60 horses daily, seeing to their medical needs, feeding,
watering, mucking stalls, exercising them, grooming them,
and giving them all the love she has for them.  The weekly menu
consists of 7 round bales of hay, 20 square bales, 21 square bales
of alfalfa, and 3000 lbs. of feed.  There are 15 horses ready for
adoption at this time.  Kat will not allow horses to be adopted for riding
until they are healthy and sociable.  She has another 10-15 that
are adoptable simply as pets.  They are not able to be
ridden due to health.  If you are an animal lover and would like
to donate or simply ask questions, click on the link below.

And now,  let's go see the horses of

Spirit Acres Farm 2

Today we found Spirit scratching herself on one of the trees in the pasture.
As I told you in the first Spirit Acres photo session,  she began her life
abandoned on the roadside at one day old.  She is now 2 years old and
quite a little lady.

Goldie was also there to greet us.

Rosy also discovered that trees make
good scratching posts.

Maggie was doing her part to remove some
of the dead wood from the trees.

Baby decided to take a midday bath.

The beautiful fellow in the back is Romeo.  He is a very large horse and is
full of mischief.  As you can  see, Kat is getting on to him for trying to steal
the bag with all the goodies in it.  The lady in front is Jovan.  She is a
registered Arabian and is 38 years old.  She had cancer and has been
a survivor for 15 years now.  She was a National Champion Show horse.

As we left the pasture, Grey Mollie tried to
sneak through the gate behind us.  She came to
Spirit Acres Farm with a broken hip.

Remember Tuner from the first day?
He's being led to a pasture by Mark, one of
the volunteers.  Tuner looks quite
peaceful, huh?

But, no,  he's ready to play!

He joins his buddy Kanin in the pasture.
Kanin is the last own son of EZ Jet, a famous
running horse.  He was found starving.

Tuner wants to run and play.  Watch out for that back leg, Tuner!!

OK, OK, we'll run!  Notice Kanin's tongue.  I think he was enjoying this as
much as Tuner was.

Boomer wanted to play with them and watched
from his round pen.

This magnificent horse is Tut.  He discovered there were
females in the pasture and put on quite a show for them.

Isn't he a fine horse?

All too quickly, our visit ended.

Tut gave us a goodbye smile and

Spirit came running to say
"Hurry back!"
