MINORITY & HOMESCHOOLING
Minority Homeschoolers of Dallas Metroplex-MHDM
MHDM is a bible-based support group, formed to enlighten, encourage, promote and motivate minority educators as they nurture and train their children in the way of the Lord and in the spirit of excellence.
We strive to achieve this by:
providing support for minority families who are homeschooling, provide a forum for minority homeschoolers to exchange ideas and provide public awareness, that homeschooling is for all.
To achieve these goals, we
*hold monthly meetings, first Friday of every month
*Hold monthly home fellowship, where the whole family get-together to have fun and fellowship. We meet in different homes every month.
*Organize supplemental educational activities in art, craft, foreign language, drama as well as
4-H club(community-based activity that develops leadership skills in children).
*Provide information and guidance to new minority homeschoolers from veteran homeschoolers.
*Publish a monthly newsletter "Homeschool Monthly".
*Maintain a library.
*Monthly character building curriculum-free.
*Network with other homeschool groups for events.
* Curriculum and book reviews.
* Distribution of resources at monthly meetings.
*Maintain a prayer chain through our "circle of calling program".

VISION-past, present and future.
Nationwide an estimated 1.23 million children are currently homeschooled by their parents. Out of these, about 2.5% make up the minority population. There are many factors for the low figure. The vision for MHDM was birth, through obedience to the call of bringing all minorities together for support as they homeschool their children. The numbers would have been higher, if many of the minority families had not stopped homeschooling due to lack of enough support to keep their motivation high.
After the birth of MHDM, it was groomed by some non-minority families who saw the need for more support for minority families. Amazingly, MHDM has been an answer to prayer for most our families. Many have prayed, and asked the Lord for something like MHDM.That response alone, has been a fuel of encouragement in moving forward with the vision of MHDM.
Presently, MHDM has 35 families meaning over one hundred and thirty-two parents and students are involved in the various activities offered by MHDM.
We look forward to expanding the vision of MHDM, as we target community awareness that homeschooling is for all. What God has done is to bring his people(from all background) to the same level as we approach the 21st century. We also look forward to establishing and maintaining a scholarship fund for our students to fulfill the dreams given to them by the Lord.

OUR FOCUS
The Bible says in Deut 6:6-7," And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way,and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up". Our focus is not in giving academic instruction only, but in building Godly character in our children. We believe that academic success without godliness is a waste of God's bountiful resources.
