3.2 - Military Uniforms
All full members of the 5th New Hampshire Regiment shall keep and maintain the uniform of a private in the Union infantry. The Regiment shall maintain a standard for military uniforms. This standard shall consist of the following items as a minimum:Private's Uniform, Infantry, 1861 through 1865.
Forage Cap · Sack Coat · Trousers · Brogans · Shirt · Waist Belt · Cap Pouch · Scabbard · Cartridge Box/Sling · Haversack · Canteen · Musket · Bayonet · Shelter Half
The above section is taken from the 5th NH By-Laws and lists the bare minimum uniform and equipment required for full membership. Additional items that are necessary to complete a private's kit and to adequately perform his function in the field follow.
