Tana Willis Johnson My pages are due for a major overhaul just as soon as I can find the time. One thing I have dealt with, however, is an ongoing and tantalising [to me at least] family mystery which took place in the Mid-West USA in the 1890's. If you like a good mystery, or have local knowledge and think you might be able to help remove a few layers, then please have a look at The Mystery of Nellie & Maggie! For a complete list of surnames appearing in my trees see A to Z of Surnames. For a list of all my direct line surnames with areas and dates please see Surnames. Some of the trees are very large [i.e. Aldous and Rothera] and I have tried to make them easy to follow. The demarcation of generations is by use of a vertical line which can be scrolled down and across the pages. Where other families join a line the surname is linked to the new tree. All of my direct ancestors are in bold type. Several lines are continued on to various cousins and where possible there are links to their respective e-mail or website addresses. My major interests are in the following families and if you have any connection I would be delighted to hear from you. I am interested in any ROTHERA sightings [including all variants] and would welcome a mail from you should you know of any. See also the Rotherology - a Family News letter letter which I hope to publish monthly STOCKS of Shelf, Northowram & Catherine Slack, back to Daniel who married Esther JAGGER of Shelf in 1692, and the coal-mining and brewing Stocks family of Upper Shibden Hall, Halifax. [For a detailed history of this family see Halifax Antiquarian Society article "The Stocks Family of Upper Shibden Hall" by Miss D Warrington, B.A.] Also in Northowram, Queensbury and Halifax are OATES going back to Richard born circa 1695, NOBLE, HORSFIELD circa 1710 and FARNELL circa 1750, and WHITE circa 1790 WILLIS I have spent 25 years chasing the Willis family around the North of England, from their beginnings in Co.Durham, Northumberland, to Derbyshire, Staffordshire, WR Yorks and Canada. I have also compiled a tree of the WILLIS family in Filey, Yorks. with which, unfortunately, as yet I have no connection. The tree contains almost the entire Willis entries in the Filey parish records and census returns and includes, among others, the following surnames: CAMMISH, CAPPLEMAN, HOTHAM, STOCKDALE, TYSON, and WATKINSON. Please e-mail for details of contacts in current families. There is another Willis line joining the HOTHAM family which I will be updating and merging with the above and hope to have this finished soon. JULIAN and BROWN in the Unstone area of Derbyshire ALDOUS going back to William b. c1450 Fressingfield. The Aldous's were prolific progenitors and the tree on these pages has taken months of work. If you have any further additions or amendments I would be delighted to hear from you. JERMY(N) of Norfolk, back to Ralph Jermyn the Elder, born c.1560. I am still working on this tree to bring the format in line with the others on these pages and hope to finish soon. BIRD CARTER LAMBERT and FINCH - all in north east Essex and SE Suffolk. I have a database of Whitby Marriages from 1775 to 1837 and am happy to do look-ups.
