How Therapy Helps
You will learn how to become an active partner in your recovery, whether
you have chosen conventional medicine, alternative treatment, or a combination
of both. Florence Klein's counseling is designed to empower you to draw
on your own inner strength in order to heal and grow.
After an initial consultation, Florence will create a recovery program
tailored to your individual needs. All programs are based on the understanding
that healing is a process of becoming whole physically, psychologically,
emotionally and spiritually. With her psycho-spiritual approach, Florence
will guide you through your program so that you can manage your own recovery.
Counseling sessions use creative visualization, stress management, and
relaxation techniques, meditation, dream work with imaginal exercises,
hypnotherapy, guided imagery, journal-writing, art therapy, selected reading,
nutritional counseling, and personalized audio tapes.
When needed, Florence draws on her extensive resources for referral
to specialized medical treatment, both traditional and alternative. Throughout
the therapy, clients work with Florence to set goals and, periodically,
to assess their progress.

How Sessions Are Run
Therapy sessions are tailored to meet each client's needs, goals, temperament
and lifestyle. Held in a nurturing and nonjudgmental environment, the sessions
encourage free choice in medical treatments, life-style changes, and spiritual
and emotional growth. Florence's style blends her professional counseling
skills with the focused empathy of one who has experienced the stages of
fear, denial, depression, anger and, ultimately, the acceptance that comes
with survival from life-threatening illness.
Clients can choose individual or group sessions, or a combination of
both.
Telephone counseling is available nationally.

Florence Klein: A Therapist
Who Speaks With Experience
A cancer survivor for over a decade, Florence's therapeutic method grew
from her personal experience and her formal training. Her own history of
transforming her life-threatening experience into a life-enhancing experience
led her toward her B.S. in Mental Health and Human Services. Florence is
certified as a facilitator and counselor by Exceptional
Cancer Patients, Inc. (ECaP), founded by physician and author Dr. Bernie
Siegel. Most recently, she was certified by Harvard Medical School for
participating in Dr. Herbert Benson's course in "Clinical Training in Mind-Body
Medicine". She is also a certified hypnotherapist.
Florence has appeared on NBC television with Gabe Pressman in "The Truth
About Cancer", on ABC television with Morton Downey Jr., and on WPIX television
with talk show host Nola Roper. For over three years, she led the American
Cancer Society's weekly Hoping and Coping Support Group in Brooklyn. She
participates regularly in a panel at Mt. Sinai Medical School on the value
of combining alternative and allopathic medicine. Florence has lectured
at learning centers throughout the New York City area, including Manhattan's
