OVERVIEW OF DISTRICT
The Fort Osage Fire Protection District is a progressive, combination emergency services department which protects 115 square miles of Northeast Jackson County, Missouri. The District borders Liberty to the North, Kansas City and Independence to the West, Central Jackson County and Sni-Valley Fire Protection Districts to the South and Wellington-Napoleon Fire Protection District to the East.
Coverage is provided with three stations in addition to an administrative complex.
Stations one and three are staffed with first out fire and EMS response. Station two is a cooperative effort between the District and the Fort Osage School District. In addition to being used as our station, the School utilizes the vehicles and equipment as part of their Firefighter I & II and EMT program. This program is offered at the senior high level as well as for evening adult education.
In addition to providing for suppression and EMS, the District provides Hazardous Materials, Special Rescue Response, Building Code Enforcement for all new structures within the District and Fire Prevention Activities.
The District is comprised of a staff of 27 paid employees as well as 24 reserve and volunteer personnel to supplement the staff.
Paid employees at the rank of Captain and below are organized through Local 3133 of the IAFF.
In 1999, the District responded to 1,965 emergency alarms.
