OUR GOALS
To increase the number of Chicano/Mexicano students in higher education.
To take part in the direction of the movement towards Chicano/Mexicano self-determination, or control of one’s destiny.
To provide students with the opportunity to learn about and participate in, the ideals of the Chicano/Mexicano movement.
Assisting in all that has to be done to obtain justice and equality for all people.
To educate and mobilize youth towards self-determination and not self-destruction.
Work to unite the Mexicano and Chicano community and break the cycle of violence, division, poverty and oppression.

M.E.Ch.A. is dedicated to the principles of equality and justice for all people regardless of ethnicity, nationality, language, socio-economic status, religion, gender, appearance, sexuality or political views. Many problems in our community are possible to resolve with a commitment to work together and make an effort to understand and support each other.  The Chicano and Mexicano people have many resources in our community and culture that we need to apply.
M.E.Ch.A. does not promote blaming, hating or discriminating against anyone.  Instead, we believe in being proactive in improving our communities and our peoples’ lives.  We believe it is crucial for our young people to learn the history of their ancestors and be given the opportunity to maintain their culture.  There is too much division between Mexicano and Chicano youth, resulting in misunderstanding, alienation and violence.  It is important that our youth understand that we are the same people, La Raza

WHAT IS MEChA?
Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlan (M.E.Ch.A.) consists of students dedicated to the advancement of human rights and to the needs of the Chicano/Mexicano community.  MEChA has chapters on colleges and high school campuses throughout the country.  MEChA provides students with the opportunity to learn about Mexicano/Chicano history and culture, and take part in community activities.  Each word in MEChA is symbolic:

MOVIMIENTO:  Means that the organization is dedicated to the movement to gain self-determination for La Raza.
ESTUDIANTIL:  Identifies the organization as a student group.
CHICANO:  This allows us to identify with our mestizo heritage.  This term also indicates a commitment to working to unite the                               Mexicano and Chicano people.
AZTLAN:  Aztlan is the homeland of our elders/antipasados.  Before moving to Tenochticlan/Mexico City, the Mexica/Aztecs                               resided in Aztlan.
