This past year, as it turned out, on Sunday the 10th of July, 2005, I was already out attending another "general interest" antique auto show (as a spectator), which, I had also noticed, was being held on the same day as the Moroso Corvette Show. It was the "10th Annual Rollin' on the River Car Show & Swap Meet," at Haddam Meadows State Park, in Haddam, CT, sponsored by Haddam Lions Club. I had brought my camera, and took many pictures at that awesome event--here's my report: http://members.aol.com/cgearannex/ROTRShow2005.html . Since Guilford was right on my way back from Haddam, it looked like it'd be a convenient stop-off along the way. Since it was early afternoon by the time I got back to Guilford, the Moroso Corvette event appeared to be in full-swing, with lots of Corvettes and other spectator vehicles trying to find places to park. I quickly found a place to park and took a stroll around the various parking lots and along Carter Drive itself, admiring all the fantastic spectator vehicles--it truly was a sight to behold. I didn't take that many shots--and am only posting here (BELOW) a few selected ones, just to provide a bit of a feel. I suggest you check out the Club Corvette of CT's web site to find out when the next one of these big-time Corvette events is going to be held (usually early/mid July, judging by the past two years' events)--even if you just go for Spectator Parking, you're in for quite a show! Be sure to visit the Club Corvette of CT online at: http://www.clubcorvettect.com/ BELOW: This is the office building that is located at the corner of Goose Lane and Carter Drive in Guilford (it's on the north side of Carter Drive, and its actual address is 246 Goose Lane; from some internet browsing, it appears there are various businesses based here, such as a publishing company, a media management company, and others). Anyway, as you can see, the parking lot of 246 Goose Lane gets positively FILLED with beautiful Corvettes! BELOW: This is another view of some of the parking lot of the 246 Goose Lane office building, but this time I'm standing kind of up on the east side of the building, looking kind of southwest, toward Carter Drive. Is this an impressive turnout of spectator Vettes or what?! It seems obvious (though I didn't specifically observe it) that there must be some people controlling this parking lot entrance (also the sides of Carter Drive--see the following view), to keep the non-Corvette vehicles out. For instance, there was a more "industrial-looking" company on the other corner of Carter and Goose ("Pexagon Technology," with street address: 20 Carter Drive), where all sorts of non-Corvette spectators were parked (and where I parked my own non-Corvette). The Moroso company, where the "Main Event" was held, is further down toward the end of Carter Driive (Moroso's street address is 80 Carter Drive)--probably more or less beyond the trees that are right of center in this view--as previously noted, I never made it into the show...since spectator parking was a show in itself! BELOW: You'll notice from the pictures on this page that Spectator Parking at the Moroso Corvette show appears to be predominantly late models--like "C5's" and "C6's" mostly. This hot little "outlaw" race-style Convertible from the late '50s/early '60s, however, was found in a space within the 246 Goose Lane office building parking lot, and drew it's share of fellow spectator parking spectators. The racing stripe is obvious--note the fender flares, roll bar, and CA black plate, too.
BELOW: Here's one more view of the impressive Spectator Corvettes. In this shot, I'm standing down on the grassy south edge of Carter Drive, closer to the Moroso entrance, but sighting back east up the gently curving roadway--which made for another nice photo-op of all the colorful Vettes parked diagonally along the edge of the road (not visible, on the north side of Carter drive from where these cars are parked, is a beautiful pond--making this one of the more scenic industrial parks I've visited!). The 246 Goose Lane office building's parking lot entrance is toward the upper left of this image (kind of behind te two walking spectators). There is another small office building down at the end of Carter Drive, across from Moroso (it appears to the home of a law firm, "Tobin & Mellen," and their street address is 75 Carter Drive), with a sort of "circular driveway" in front--which is also filled with--you guessed it--Spectator Corvettes! BELOW: Here's one more view, this time I'm back up near the Goose Lane end of Carter Drive, looking west down the road. The black glass building at the right is again the 246 Goose Lane office building, and the small gray square toward the left in the distance is the 75 Carter Drive "Tobin & Mellen" office building.
