A History of the Freetown Council On Aging

On March 6, 1971 at the annual town meeting Article 25: "To approve to form a group of seven persons to become The Council on Aging" was submitted and approved by the Selectmen of the town of Freetown namely: Mariano Rezendes, Jr., Milton A. DeMoranville and Frederick C. Boehler. It was approved by a hand count vote of 79 to 26.

Seven persons from the town (three from East Freetown and three from Assonet and a chairman) were selected to form the Freetown Council on Aging . They would meet in the town -hall, the. old school building or any other place that they could because they did not have a building of their own . There was very little activity for the seniors because there was no way of communicating with them. The only activity was a bus trip once a year to a selected location.
